The Nassau County Bar Association mourns the loss of Past President Michael J. Ostrow who passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the age of 90. Ostrow was President of the NCBA from 1984 to 1985. He had served as Chairperson of the NCBA Matrimonial Law Committee, Ethics Committee and Judiciary Committee. "It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Past President Ostrow," said NCBA President Daniel Russo. "He was a credit to the legal profession and the matrimonial bar, and his presence will be deeply missed." Past President Ostrow graduated Cornell Law School in 1958, where he served as Associate Editor in Chief of the Cornell Law Review. Ostrow was a highly accomplished matrimonial lawyer. He served as Chair of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section (1976-1978), President of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (1980-1981), and later president of the national organization (1996-1997). Ostrow co-founded the Garden City matrimonial and family law firm of Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC in 1993. He retired from private practice in 2014. “Mike Ostrow was a beloved partner, a true lawyer's lawyer and an all-around good person," adds NCBA Past President Elena Karabatos. "We will miss him deeply.”
