About us
About 4-H: In 4-H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. We are America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The 4-H Experience: 4-H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. This 4-H experiences grows young people who are two times more likely to make healthy decisions; two times more likely to pursue STEM opportunities outside of school; and four times more likely to contribute to their communities. Kids experience 4-H in every county and parish in the country—through in-school and afterschool programs, school and community Clubs, and 4-H camps. National 4-H Council is the private sector, non-profit partner of the Cooperative Extension System and 4-H National Headquarters located at the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The 4-H LinkedIn page is maintained by National 4-H Council. 4-H is the youth development program of our nation's Cooperative Extension System and USDA. When youth, educators, and communities come together and are supported by the right resources and experiences, the possibilities truly are endless. That’s the vision behind this summer’s #4HSTEMChallenge, Food for Thought! 🍽️ More than just an engaging activity, this challenge empowers young people to see how they can impact the future of food security. While they’re enjoying hands-on learning, they’re also exploring critical concepts like supply chain management and sustainability. Interested in joining the challenge? Get your Food for Thought STEM Challenge kit today: https://bit.ly/3yT9QhF A big thank you to our dedicated 4-H educators at LSU AgCenter, North Dakota State University, Penn State Extension, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln for bringing this experience to life. And we couldn’t do it without the support of our incredible sponsors—Corteva Agriscience, HughesNet, Invenergy, and Nestlé.

✨"For as long as I can remember, 4-H has been a huge part of my life. From animal projects to archery, it's shaped who I am and what I want to be. At camp, I learned to care for and ride horses 🐎, sparking my love for animals. Now, I'm off to college to major in Animal Studies and one day, become a zoo keeper! 4-H also nurtured my passion for archery. Even when I struck out trying out for the school team, 4-H offered a welcoming space to learn and improve. Fast forward to today, I'm the Older Boys' Top Archer at county camp and aiming to shoot for my college archery team! Without 4-H, my path would be different. It showed me my passions and gave me the support to chase them. I am very thankful to be a 4-Her." 🍀 –Carter, WV 4-H'er #Thisis4H

I was excited to see our nation’s future leaders gather in DC last week for National 4-H Council's True Leaders in Equity Institute (TLEI)! Their energy and passion are truly inspiring and give me immense hope for the future. These changemakers are creating opportunities for all youth, making our communities better places to live, work, play, and collaborate with one another. I was honored to be with them. We believe in youth and adults working in partnership to leverage the unique strengths that they bring to their communities. TLEI challenges them to collaborate to ideate an equity-related project to grow 4-H programs in their own backyards. This means they take home more than just a swag bag and memories; our cohorts leave TLEI with actionable Lead to Change projects that they'll champion in their 4-H clubs across the country. If you are a youth leader or 4-H educator who attended this year's TLEI, I'd love to hear more about your experience!
