Boys & Girls Clubs of America mourns the recent passing of former Congresswoman Nita Lowey. From her first year representing New York in Congress in 1989 to her last in 2021, Representative Lowey was a tireless champion for youth, afterschool programs and Boys & Girls Clubs. BGCA was honored to present her with the Champion of Youth Award in 2018 for her leadership supporting the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program — which was later named after her in recognition of the invaluable role she played in strengthening it. We are grateful to be part of her legacy, with Boys & Girls Clubs serving more than 220,000 youth each year through the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center initiative. Congresswoman Lowey’s commitment to young people has positively impacted countless lives, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication and leadership. Our hearts are with the Lowey family during this time.

What an amazing day at the Pit Stop event in Phoenix! Youth got hands-on with NASCAR experiences, including an iRace simulator, remote control cars, and the chance to meet NASCAR driver, Michael McDowell. They also built their own tracks and trained like a real pit crew. 🚗💨 It was a pleasure to have Latasha Causey, PHR, President of the Phoenix Raceway, Club alum and a valued board member. This event was a great way to inspire the next generation of leaders and introduce them to the excitement of STEM. A big thank you to all who made this event such a success!
