National Angels is changing the way young people and families experience foster care through radical community.

About us

National Angels is a nonprofit organization changing the way children, youth, and families experience foster care across the United States. Since the launch of our founding chapter in Austin, Texas, our programs have scaled through 20 chapters across 14 states. Each chapter walks alongside children, youth, and families in their local foster care community by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building, and mentorship. The radical support delivered by our programs aims to change the statistics plaguing the child welfare system, and positively impact society as a whole. National Angels represents a sustainable solution to one of the country's toughest social issues.

An 18-year-old boy aged out of foster care and had nowhere to go. He began to walk until he could find the nearest freeway, threw himself in front of an 18-wheeler, and committed suicide. The judge who shared this story with Susan Ramirez said that it is so problematic to never understand what that young man's life was supposed to become. It is a disservice to all of us. We're all robbed because of it. And in one hour, Susan’s whole life completely changed. She believes in that very moment God said to her, “This is your burden to bear and I want you to do something about it.” And she left the judge’s talk “feeling the weight of the world.” Susan started what is now National Angels, whose 19 chapters have volunteers doing life with 3,000 kids experiencing foster care and their foster parents! I cannot wait for you to meet Susan on this week’s episode on An Army of Normal Folks (link in the comments)

You first met Abel and his incredible family in the documentary-short we shared a little over a week ago. The response has knocked our socks off! We are so proud of our programs, and this level of validation and awareness from Stand Together and Freethink is so exciting. Abel’s journey is so compelling that their team decided to put the spotlight on his whole story – complete with a surprise of a lifetime from the Austin Angels chapter and their partner, City Limits Subaru In Abel’s words: “My relationship with Connor has truly transformed my life. Our friendship has helped me to become who I am today, and has shaped my future. Connor has taught me so much, and I hope to one day be a Connor for someone else. With my family and Connor by my side, I have defied the odds. The foster care statistics do not define me or any of my siblings. This experience has refined us, not defined us. Our lives may have been hard, but they have been transformed.” Radical community changes the foster care experience. Consistent relationships can change the outcomes of foster care. Unwavering belief in a young person changes everything. We are so happy to share this video with you today – a demonstration of a life that’s been transformed through the power of community, connection, and hope for the future. Watch, share, and tell us what you think in the comments. If you feel moved to support this life-changing work, would you consider signing up for a monthly donation? [Link in bio to take action!]

With 400,000 children in foster care, the need for stable foster homes has never been more urgent. But 50% of foster homes close within their first year due to lack of support. That’s why National Angels is building “radical community” to set foster families up for long-term success:

Most foster care groups focus only on the children. That leaves a big gap.

💡 People need people. And organizations need partners.💡 Stand Together partners with the nation's most transformative nonprofits, specifically those led by disruptive social entrepreneurs attempting to solve massive problems. Their team, led by Evan Feinberg, has recognized Susan Ramirez as one of those leaders – and our community-supported programs as an innovative solution to the foster care crisis. I'm 10 months into my role with National Angels, and I have been blown away by our partnership. We are better because of Stand Together and their team members who've poured into us. They've helped transform our business so we can transform the foster care experience on a national scale. It gives me chills just thinking about it! Last October, they engaged their incredible media partner, Freethink, to produce a documentary short about the National Angels programs – and their potential to build a better world. On Monday, it was finally released. The awareness and interest it has the potential to bring our work is huge. This is the power of partnership. And we are so grateful. Check out this article to read more about it – and if you have 8 minutes, will you watch the video and let me know what you think? 📽 #EveryPersonEmpowered #ChangeTheStatistics #nonprofit #partnership

34 years and over 300 children “We needed support, and didn’t know where to go to get it. This is the most wonderful organization for me and people like me. I cannot put it into words. Their names are right, they are Angels, they are blessings and I think it's the best thing that’s come along.” Today is #GivingTuesday — and we want to talk about foster care.  Time and time again, children, youth, and families who experience foster care are not setup for success. The remarkable impact of our programs represents a sustainable solution. Our model inspires a fundamental change in approach to the way we collectively address one of the country’s toughest social issues. Barbara, a foster parent of 34 years who has opened her home to more than 300 children, knows how impactful our Love Box® program is — not just for her, but for the children in her home. There are over 400,000 children and youth experiencing foster care in the United States. We want to reach every single one of them, and we want to radically support the individuals and families who care for them. Visit our website for ways you can join us.
