Our Mission

With an extensive history in both Washington, DC, and Baltimore, today the National Aquarium carries on the legacy of the nation’s first aquarium. As a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures, the National Aquarium champions environmental initiatives by engaging with visitors, volunteers, students and citizens from around the world to actively participate in the preservation of our natural resources and living systems.

Our City

Here at the National Aquarium, we are committed to giving back to our hometown city of Baltimore. Through visitation programs like Pay What You Want Day, Half-Price Friday Nights and education programs like Read to Reef and Aquarium on Wheels, we seek to connect Baltimore residents of all ages to our incredible blue planet and the many animals that call our ocean home.

Building Fearless Leaders

National Aquarium's Aquarium on Wheels is a work study program for Baltimore high school students. These students focus on the Environmental education of Baltimore's youth. Hear one student's thoughts on how impactful this program is, and how powerful his generation is.
