With great sadness, the NGCOA staff and Board of Directors learned of Joel Moore’s unexpected passing last week. Moore was the owner and operator of The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, NJ for 22 years. He was the visionary behind the development of The Ridge at Back Brook. As described in a 2014 Golf Business article, “…one day he woke from a vivid dream, turned to his wife and announced, ‘I’m going to build a golf course designed by Tom Fazio.’” In 2002, the course opened and since then The Ridge at Back Brook has received local, regional and national acclaim. He was an active NGCOA member and served as an officer to the New Jersey Golf Course Owners Association for many years. In 2021, Moore was awarded the Paul Porter Award and the Champion Award by the NGCOA for outstanding leadership, commitment and service to a national affiliate. Moore made an enduring contribution to the golf industry in New Jersey. “In many ways, Joel was a model member of NGCOA,” said NGCOA CEO Jay Karen. “He cared deeply for the success of our industry in New Jersey, and represented himself and fellow members so well. We were so sorry to hear the news of his sudden passing, and we are grateful for all that he did.” If you would like to make a contribution, his family suggests a contribution in his memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
