According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), three million or more employees continue to quit their jobs each month. In state and local government, the most recent BLS monthly report shows 570,000 vacancies, but only 156,000 hires. It’s a vicious cycle. Vacancies cause excessive workloads, which cause stress and turnover. Then, vacancies are tough to fill. How can city governments attract and retain talent, and ensure they're a great place to work? Learn more in our partner post from UKG. https://bit.ly/3CaOe1A

According to the most recent data, youth and young adults (15-24) accounted for eight percent of distracted drivers involved in fatal crashes. In an ongoing effort to keep our roads safe, Clear Channel Outdoor partnered with Project Yellow Light, an annual scholarship competition that offers high school and college students an opportunity to design TV, radio and billboard PSAs to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, specifically cell phone usage while driving. Learn more about Project Yellow Light and how teens and young adults are using creativity to make a change that goes beyond their own neighborhoods.

“It’s not a guarantee that we all view things the same way. But we all come together and have the mindset of ‘We want to learn something new. We don’t care who’s telling us this information. We want to work together.’” On the latest CitiesSpeak podcast, we’re joined by Councilmember Taneea Browning from the City of Central Point, Oregon! Hear from Browning, as well as Councilmember Jonathan Stehle of City of Fairfax, Virginia, on how NLC’s convening power brings local leaders from across the country – who might otherwise never meet – to connect and share knowledge.
