Master of Policy Management ('24), Georgetown University | Master of Public Administration ('20), Columbia University-SIPA | Former Biden-Harris White House Appointee at EPA| Ex-Capitol Hill | National Urban Fellow ('24)

This week, I was honored to graduate as a fellow of the National Urban Fellows class of 2024 and Georgetown University Master of Policy Management (MPM)! A fourteen-month leadership accelerator combining 1) in-house work at a social impact organization, 2) a full master’s degree at Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, and 3) dedicated mentorship and programming on equity-centric leadership and social justice, this three-pronged fellowship has changed my life in powerful and irreversible ways. More importantly, it’s taught me to believe in the power of my voice and know that the best things in life are on the other side of our fears. I am forever grateful to those who pushed me to dream bigger and not be afraid to say it. To the National Urban Fellows Program and the McCourt School of Public Policy, whose partnership is transforming entire generational lines. To those who trained me to be comfortable in discomfort, knowing that the best things in life come from life itself challenging our own certainties. To the bold female leaders Lisa Rawlings, PhD and Maria Cancian, who sponsored my dreams and invested in my education, and to the men and women, mentors, McCourt faculty and staff, NUF team, family, new and old friends, without whom this journey wouldn’t have been possible in the first place. To recall a few words I shared next to the phenomenal Jordan C. Haynes, MPM at the closing ceremony of our graduating class: "Class of 2024, we have arrived at our destination." From here, the sky is the limit. 🙌🏼

Kudos to the future Dr. Shaw!! 🎓 Big Congratulations to Class of 2024 Graduate Anthony S., winner of the 2024 National Urban Fellows Master of Policy Management Capstone award! Praising its relevance and academic rigor, Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy Assistant Professor Nuku Ofori bestowed this award to Anthony for his capstone entitled "Under the Gun". This outstanding capstone examines the problem of urban gun violence in Philadelphia, focusing on its economic costs to the most impacted communities and recommends a thoughtful set of policy alternatives to stem gun violence and improve public safety in Philadelphia. Thank you Philadelphia Foundation, Civic Coalition to Save Lives, and Estelle Richmond for your mentorship and Comcast (Tracy Henderson, Sarah Ferst Finkelstein, Gwyneth Gaul, CAP®) for making this moment possible! Up next for Anthony, doctoral studies at School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania! 🙌🏾 #nationalurbanfellows #NUF55 #NUF

We recently gathered for Emergence 2024, the closing ceremony for our latest cohort of National Urban Fellows at the beautiful new home of the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy . It was a poignant moment as friends, family, Alumni, and supporters joined to witness our Fellows step into their new roles as NUF Alumni. The evening was filled with joy and inspiration, celebrating not just their completion of the NUF journey, but also individual achievements that have left a mark on our NUF community and their attainment of NUF Alumni status. Congratulations to Anthony Shaw, who was awarded Best Capstone for his outstanding work. Mynhan Do received the class-nominated 2024 Cohort Award, celebrating her leadership and meaningful contributions to her cohort's experience . Additionally, both Robert 'Tony' Parsons and Mynhan Do were honored with the 2024 NUF Star Award, highlighting their exceptional leadership and performance across all three sectors of the NUF experience Academics, Residency, and NUF programing. While these awards exemplify the excellence and commitment our fellows, we are incredibly proud of each one of our outstanding and newest Alumni and are excited to see how they will continue to lead and inspire in their careers! The NUF Class of 2024 reconvened in Washington D.C. after completing their 9-month residencies across the nation.
