About us
The National Western Center is a new take on a legendary Colorado space – a place where heritage of the Old West meets progress of the New West, a space where school children can cultivate food systems while researchers discover food security solutions that will change the world. Within the National Western Center campus, people and experiences converge to create a year-round destination that is just as much for the city slicker as for the cowboy. At an intersection of agriculture, education, and entertainment, global thought leaders meet curious students and join local community in a convergence of diverse perspectives and common cultural identity. The City and County of Denver, Colorado State University, the Western Stock Show Association, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and History Colorado have worked with surrounding community members, civic leaders, and nonprofits to envision a place that honors and fosters the cultural contributions of the historic Western activities on the site, and enhances the campus to a destination of inspiration and impact. The National Western Stock Show has been a global attraction on the site for more than 110 years, and the expanded facilities will prepare for the next 100 years of the signature Denver event. ♻️ Celebrating Global Recycling Day! 🌍 At the National Western Center, sustainability is a core value, and we're proud to strengthen our efforts through our partnership with Compost Colorado. 🌱 One year ago, we signed a contract to bring composting services to our campus, supporting both daily operations and events for the next 5 years with the option for an extension. This initiative helps divert waste from landfills and transform it into nutrient-rich compost, benefiting the community. We’re also exploring exciting opportunities to maximize the impact of our campus compost, from supporting local initiatives to partnering with the city for further sustainability efforts. The National Western Center and City and County of Denver are committed to inclusive economic growth by ensuring certified small and minority-owned businesses play a key role in our projects. A great example is Martinez Fire Protection, a union M/WBE, SBE, DBE fire suppression firm that installed the fire suppression system for the Livestock Arena & Expo Hall. With ceiling heights nearing 100 feet, their skilled union craftworkers installed thousands of feet of fire protection piping, collaborating closely with the City and County of Denver and Denver Fire Department to ensure a code-compliant, life-saving system.
