The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) celebrated the achievements of Members of Congress and their staff in non-legislative operations and constituent services at the seventh annual Democracy Awards held today. “The Democracy Awards aim to highlight the dedication of legislators and their teams who go above and beyond to serve their constituents and implement best practices within their offices,” said Jen Daulby, CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation. This year’s ceremony also recognized lifetime achievements within the First Branch. A notable honoree, Wade Ballou, has led the Office of Legislative Counsel with unwavering commitment, managing a team of 90 staff—including 68 attorneys—over the past eight years in a non-partisan, impartial, and confidential capacity. In addition, the Office of the Clerk was acknowledged for its exemplary handling of two contentious Speaker elections, which included a historic 15 rounds of voting, a motion to vacate, and a transition to a Speaker Pro Tempore. This bill imposes a minimum tax on individual taxpayers whose net worth for the taxable year exceeds $100 million. The tax is equal to 25% of the sum of a taxpayer's taxable income, plus net unrealized gains for the taxable year.
