Each month, the N-EWN partners gather together to share updates on their work in and outside the Network. Meetings begin with a speaker or two from one of our partners to discuss their ongoing work, and then we hold a discussion period to ask questions about the presentation and share ideas with each other. This month, we heard from Mary-Margaret S McKinney, Director of Coastal Restoration at our partner Native Shorelines, a Davey company. Native Shorelines is a division of the Davey Resource Group, providing living shoreline consultation and installation expertise and services. McKinney gave a presentation on their proprietary QuickReef® technology, an arrangement of native coastal materials to build shorelines that quickly recruits oysters and disperses wave energy without being reliant on oyster growth. McKinney's presentation reviewed the testing process Native Shorelines has worked on while developing QuickReef®. There are several variations on the arrangement of QuickReef®, depending on the size needed for a project, including a combined type that utilizes tech from another N-EWN partner: Natrx | Adaptive Infrastructure's ExoForm™ units are a highly flexible, habitat-specific structures that support the QuickReef® material for a highly durable reef. The Network for Engineering With Nature holds gatherings, both virtually and in person, to facilitate the social dynamics of innovation among diverse organizations.
