❗ NATO’s TASK FORCE X delivers first experimentation results.   🛳️ NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT)'s team spearheaded the execution of the first phase of experimentation with unmanned surface vessels (USVs) in TASK FORCE X. This project is #NATO’s response to deter acts of vandalism against critical undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and will provide a framework for NATO Nations to enable deployment of their own autonomous capabilities to face this threat.   🌊 Interoperability and integration within traditional maritime task groups were tested in Denmark, as well as direct responses to threats by unmanned surface vessels (USVs) in Opposing Forces setting. Later this month, experimentation will continue as part of NATO's DYNAMIC MARINER event series in Spain.   👏TASK FORCE X leverages successes like the United States Navy’s Task Force 66, employing maritime autonomous systems to provide persistent surveillance, detect and track potential threats, and enhance situational awareness. 💡 Imagine an #AI system driving intelligence, logistics, and strategy in a multinational military operation. But can coalition partners trust it? Different training data, conflicting rules, or lack of transparency can breed doubt, miscommunication, and other issues. Building trust in Artificial Intelligence (AI) isn’t optional - it’s mission-critical.     🎯 The AI – Building Trust initiative, led by NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) for the U.S. Joint Staff’s Multinational Capability Development Campaign (MCDC), ensures AI systems across coalition & partner nations are reliable, transparent, and interoperable, enabling seamless collaboration even in high-stakes operations. This initiative is an international effort, integrating expertise from military, industry, academia, and policymakers. Working with experts from 17 partner nations and the #EU Defence Agency, the initiative will deliver practical tools, governance frameworks, and real-world use cases to install confidence in AI as a trusted force multiplier. By 2026, the AI – Building Trust initiative will provide key recommendations to secure reliable, interoperable AI for coalition operations.     ⁉️ Why trust in AI is so important?     🔎AI is transforming defence operations, from cyber defence to autonomous systems. However, trust in AI extends beyond technical reliability - it requires governance, accountability, and transparency across nations. Fragmented approaches can slow down decision-making and disrupt intelligence sharing.     📢 As Marcus Gaul, Head of Data Science and AI at NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), puts it: "Trust is essential for AI-supported cooperation and success. NATO’s Military Committee, the Alliance’s senior authoritative military body, visited NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) for a strategically important engagement as, alongside key discussions of Allied Command Transformation workstrands, it provided the Military Committee with first-hand insights into how the Command helps nations deliver the right capabilities (right focus, right solutions, right time) through innovative and accelerated transformation. The Military Committee serves as NATO’s foremost military authority, providing crucial, consensus-based military advice to the North Atlantic Council on matters of military policy and strategy. It plays a pivotal role in guiding NATO’s two Strategic Commands: Allied Command Transformation and Allied Command Operations. Acting as a crucial link between political decision-making and NATO’s military structure, the Military Committee ensures that political decisions and guidance are effectively translated into actionable military direction. #WeAreNATO

🚀 Driving the future of military technology: the Innovation Continuum develops military options through the experimentation and demonstration of cutting-edge Science and Technology solutions. This series of events presents a unique opportunity for #NATO bodies and nations to collaborate, enhancing the value of Science and Technology in warfare development.   🎯 In 2025, the continuum will focus on Multi-Domain Operations and Digital Transformation, powered by Emerging and Disruptive Technologies, with a special emphasis on multi-domain autonomous systems and critical underwater infrastructure directly supporting Task Force X demonstrations and NATO's Digital Backbone.   🧬 The 2025 Innovation Continuum will be organized around four sequenced phases of scoping, scenario development, integration, and demonstration/experimentation.
