  • #NAVSEANews Alert! Today the US Navy awarded General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (General Dynamics NASSCO), a contract for a block buy of up to eight John Lewis Class Fleet Replenishment Oilers (T-AOs). Vital to the Navy’s Combat Logistic Force, T-AOs are essential to providing refueling capabilities throughout the Fleet. The first ship from this contract is scheduled to be delivered in 2029. The use of this T-AO “block buy” contract will result in a significant savings compared to the total costs of carrying out the program through separate annual contracts. T-AO program savings of $491 million across six fiscal years are expected. This T-AO block buy delivers on the Department of Navy’s commitment to get more players on the field while growing near-term capability and capacity. In keeping with the Secretary of the Navy’s Maritime Statecraft initiative, this award reflects innovation to build and sustain our maritime dominance and allows for critical investment and sustainment of our shipbuilding industrial base, helping to ensure stability, and jobs for the next decade. 🎉 Congratulations to our Expeditionary Missions Program Office (PMS 408) and the Expeditionary Medical (ExMed) Team! 🏆 We’re thrilled to share that they received an Honorable Mention for the Outstanding Research Accomplishment Team Program Management Award at this year's Military Health System Research Symposium. The PMS 408 ExMed team achieved a major milestone by developing the US Navy’s first official requirements document for naval medicine, which has paved the way for a $793.5 million acquisition program to provide systems and capabilities for casualty care during multi-domain operations, large-scale combat, and prolonged care scenarios. Their groundbreaking work lays a vital foundation for procuring and assessing essential expeditionary medical capabilities that will be critical for future conflicts. The award was presented on August 26th by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Honorable Dr. Lester Martinez-Lopez. We’re proud of the ExMed team’s dedication and innovation in advancing Navy medicine. Curious to learn more why ExMed team stood out? • 🗣📣“Man our ship and bring her to life!” 🫡 In #MorePlayersOnTheField news, USS Kingsville (LCS 36) was commissioned this past weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas. Named in honor of the city of Kingsville and the King Ranch in Texas, USS Kingsville joins the Fleet as the latest commissioned Independence-variant littoral combat ship. The U.S. Navy prides itself on a strong tradition of the relationship between a ship and their namesake community or family. Kingsville, the 18th Independence-variant LCS, is the first Navy ship to bear a name to Kingsville and the King Ranch. Independence-variant littoral combat ships are fast, optimally manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats. LCS integrate with joint combined, manned and unmanned teams to support forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence missions around the globe. • Today, NAVSEA joins the Nation in celebrating Women’s Equality Day which commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote in 1920. This year’s Women’s Equality Day theme is “One Piece at a Time,” a theme to celebrate the expansion of women’s rights and the achievements that women in our military and civilian ranks have made. As #TheForceBehindTheFleet, we commemorate the building of the future USNS Lucy Stone (T-AO 209), the Navy’s 5th John Lewis-class fleet replenishment oiler. The ship, which is scheduled to be christened next month, is named for American suffragist Lucy Stone, who joined other notable advocates such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Ernestine Rose, and Antoinette Brown Blackwell to petition for suffrage and abolition in the 19th century. Stone’s efforts as a founder of the Women’s National Loyal League were essential to the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. Today, more than 180,000 women comprise the Dept. of the Navy’s total force. NAVSEA, alongside US Navy leadership, remains fully committed to ensuring that we can add more pieces to the picture of inclusive representation within our command. For more information on the impact that women have continuously made within the DON, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e2bV9ng Follow us here for continued coverage on the christening and commissioning of the future USNS Lucy Stone.
