“So often we see sustainability taught as an afterthought,” said Dr. Steven Jiang, professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “With this grant we want to continue to integrate environmental and social sustainability into our curriculum so our students are always thinking about how their systems and designs will impact the community.”

Last month we lost a leader who, not only had lasting impact on our college, but a lasting impact the discipline of computer science. Dr. Joseph Monroe, '62, served as dean of the College of Engineering from 2000-2009. He was the first Black person to receive a Ph.D. in Computer Science and the first Black person to be appointed to a full time faculty position in the U.S. Air Force Academy. This Friday, we will honor him and his legacy with a memorial service in McNair Auditorium at 2 p.m. and virtually. If you plan to attend, please RSVP at this link https://lnkd.in/ea6X2C2H

Our Dean Stephanie Luster-Teasley Pass had the honor of awarding our former dean and chancellor emeritus Harold L. Martin Sr., Ph.D. with the 2024 AMIE Lifetime Achievement award. As one of the founding deans of Advancing Minorities' Interest in Engineering (AMIE), Martin helped ensure that corporations didn’t only see our HBCU students as talent, but also made strategic partnerships with the engineering colleges they attended. Thank you for all you’ve done, Dr. Martin!

We are so thrilled to be this year’s host of the Advancing Minorities' Interest in Engineering (AMIE) conference this year. Our students, faculty and staff have been great participants and panelists.
A series of great and thought provoking conversations at the 31st Annual AMIE Conference today. NCA&T's College of Engineering is pleased to help host this year's conference with AMIE. The corporate leaders and HBCU Engineering Deans shared knowledge, exchanged ideas and discussed strategies to advance minorities in engineering.

Folaranmi Olawepo, a senior computer science student, earned second place and a $10,000 cash prize for his app “Neur” at the Impact Pitch Competition presented by the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in partnership with Think Broccoli. “‘Neur’ is an all-in-one platform that helps college student entrepreneurs have an equal advantage in turning their ideas into reality,” said Olawepo. Olawepo believes this product will allow colleges and universities to have their own digital innovation lab. He plans to launch “Neur” over the December break and ask N.C. A&T students to use the beta version for their senior projects and senior theses. Read more:
