Oak Ridge is a young town with a rich heritage that goes back long before its incorporation. The town recently opened a new park called Heritage Farm Park which combines the new and the old by creating an inclusive playground and plans for more recreational spaces, while preserving a portion of the area to live on as farmland. The project has long been in the works and was able to come to fruition as a result of American Rescue Plan dollars. Read more here:

Interested in funding similar training for your staff? All HBT members are eligible to apply for our Wellness Grant!
This morning, several Central Pines staff members are participating in Mental Health First Aid training. A survey of U.S. workers showed that 1 in 5 rate their mental health as fair or poor, resulting in four times more unplanned absences. When employees feel that their employers care about their overall wellbeing, they are three times more likely to be engaged at work. Through participation in this training, our employees are creating a healthier, more engaged experience at work. This training is being funded by the NC League of Municipalities HBT Wellness Grant.

NC League of Municipalities reposted this
Communities around the country are struggling to keep up with the burden of producing their financial reports, especially at a time when it's difficult to hire enough qualified personnel to do the heavy lifting. Watch a brief video by Barrett and Greene Inc. featuring Sharon Edmundson, MPA, CPA, director of municipal finance programs with the NC League of Municipalities, to hear more about this issue. “Most board members (and) elected leaders, really have two questions," she says, "They want to know how much money they can spend and whether or not the government stayed within its budget. And they’re having an increasing amount of difficulty finding that information in the financial report.” [The video was produced as part of a series filmed at the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)'s annual conference in June] To see the video click here: https://lnkd.in/gYXkdRtg Chris Morrill Shayne Kavanagh Katie Ludwig Shakeel Tufail Jennifer Becker Steve Groom Philip Rocco David G. NCLM's Municipal Accounting Services team has worked with towns across the state to provide a more specialized and robust accounting software for municipalities in need of it. Towns are already seeing results of the upgraded software and hands-on training provided as a part of the program. “We understand more about our software program, we understand more about the information that we're giving out and it's given us confidence.” –Wendy Thompson, finance officer, Town of Jonesville.
