👋 Registration is open to the Skills Development for Smart SpecializationConference! 📅 The Skills Development for Smart Specialization Conference will be held under the Hungarian presidency in the beautiful city of Budapest on 02-03 December. Day 1️⃣ focuses on defining a framework of skills development for smart specialization through various discussions. 🛠 To setting the scene, participants will get an overview of the role of Vocational Education and Training in Smart Specialization based on a 2019 report prepared by experts of Joint Research Centre. 🧩 Further initiatives, such as the European Training Foundation’s Smart Specialization (S4S3) methodological approach will also be presented. Last week, I had the incredible honor of hosting a study visit as part of the NCP_WIDERA.NET project, a European-wide network of national contact points. We welcomed participants from 13 different widening countries, all bringing remarkable academic expertise to the table. 🎓🤝 I organized a workshop at the Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) Robotics Innovation Center to introduce our department and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The visit was not just about knowledge sharing—it was about building meaningful connections. 🧠✨ Between a city tour of Bremen, a productive workshop, and a wonderful networking dinner at the historic Comturei restaurant, new friendships were formed, and I’m hopeful that this will lead to exciting new projects within the Horizon Europe Framework Program. 🚀 Looking forward to seeing how these connections grow and contribute to the future of robotics and innovation! The European Commission has adopted the new #EUResearchArea (ERA) Communication! It’s called "Strengthening Europe’s Research and Innovation: The ERA’s Journey and Future Directions". It comes at a pivotal moment for the implementation of the EU’s single market for research and innovation. Four years ago, the revamp of the ERA started with the 2020 ERA Communication. This led to the Pact for Research and Innovation, showing EU countries to strengthen research and innovation policies and set joint priorities. The ERA Policy Agendas translated these into specific actions with three-year work plans, with the next phase from 2025 to 2027 currently being developed by the European Commission, EU countries, and stakeholders. The #Letta and #Draghi reports emphasise the need to further implement the ERA to enhance Europe’s competitiveness. 🌍💡More excellent research, impactful innovation and technology scale-ups are needed to make Europe more globally competitive, secure and sustainable. These are among the 1️⃣ 2️⃣ expert recommendations presented yesterday to the Commission to strengthen #HorizonEurope, the EU R&Iprogramme, and its successor. The recommendations are based on thorough analyses of Horizon Europe, the ex-post evaluation of Horizon 2020, and other relevant data.
