Join us for BoradbaND 2024!, #NorthDakota's first Broadband Summit. Open to Broadband Association of North Dakota (BAND) Members, internet service providers, tribal government representatives, local government representatives, nonprofit organizations, and interested members of the public. BroadbaND 2024! will feature roundtable discussions regarding the State’s Capital Project Funds (CPF) broadband projects, activities related to Broadband Equity Access Deployment (BEAD), and the State’s plans regarding Digital Equity (DE) Capacity and Competitive grants. The summit also will feature industry speakers and technology providers. The keynote will feature Michael Romano, Executive Vice President of NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association.

Also taking the stage at the National Association of State Technology Directors (NASTD) Annual Conference in Minneapolis this week, Craig Felchle, North Dakota's Chief Technology Officer, led a panel on the evolution of #AI and shared insights from the National Association of State Technology Directors' AI Survey Results. He was joined by an impressive lineup of panelists: David Tucker, Director of Strategic Digital Services for the State of Texas; Sarjoo Shah, Executive Director at Oracle; Mithu Bhargava, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Iron Mountain; and Patrick Wright, Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer for the State of Nebraska. Great discussion on the transformative opportunities that AI presents, the importance of #datagovernance, and the key fundamentals needed for AI enablement. #NASTD2024

The U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will be accepting applications for the Digital Equity Competitive Grant from August 14 until September 23, 2024. Award amounts range from $5M to $12M and are intended to fund projects that will support efforts to achieve digital equity, promote digital inclusion activities, and spur greater adoption and meaningful use of broadband among Covered Populations. We are excited to announce that Gov. Doug Burgum has appointed Greg Hoffman to lead North Dakota Information Technology as chief information officer (CIO), effective immediately. This appointment is based on his strong leadership experience and deep knowledge of the agency's vital role in state government. Greg has been serving as interim CIO since June 1, 2024. He was appointed deputy CIO in April 2022 and has previously led the agency's Administrative Services Division since 2014. He joined NDIT in 2005 as its first budget/rate analyst. North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler said new state guidance about #artificialintelligence has been designed to help local schools develop their own #AI policies, and help teachers and administrators work more efficiently. The information, which has been posted on the Department of Public Instruction’s website, was compiled by a group of educators drawn from North Dakota schools, the NDDPI, the North Dakota Career and Technical Education, and state information technology agencies.
