Did you know that more than 60% of Americans with #dementia go undiagnosed? If that strikes a nerve, be sure to register for an important webinar happening October 16, at 1pm ET: https://lnkd.in/gqaFnTqa Tom Hubbard, SVP of Policy Research at NEHI (Network for Excellence in Health Innovation)*, has assembled a panel of leaders in this field, including Neurotrack's Elli Kaplan, Jen Pollack and Claire Sexton of the Alzheimer's Association®, and Vijaya B. Kolachalama of Boston University School of Medicine, to discuss solutions to this troubling detection gap. It's an opportunity to hear how providers are integrating innovations like our digital cognitive tests into their workflows (especially in retirement hubs like Florida and California, where there's a huge need for efficient, objective screening at scale). And if you haven't been following this hot topic, it's a chance to get up to speed by the end of the hour! This NEHI webinar is open to all and there's no cost to attend. Sign up today. *NEHI is a non-profit, unbiased organization with members from across the healthcare ecosystem (including #providers, payers, #hospitals, health systems, pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, and organizations).

Dementia is highly prevalent among aging Americans: recent studies indicate that over 10 percent Americans over the age of 65 have dementia, with the incidence increasing as people age. Yet studies indicate that it is vastly under-screened, under-assessed, and under-diagnosed--- as many as 60 percent of cases are undetected at any given time. Moreover ongoing research suggests that a person’s susceptibility to dementia may be identifiable well before signs or symptoms appear. At the same time studies also suggest that many risk factors for the condition are modifiable, raising hope that early preventive action can avert or delay the progression of dementia and dementia-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and other disorders. As new treatments emerge for Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders emerge, the effectiveness of treatment may hinge on just how early a patient’s disease was identified and treated. Fortunately, a wide array of innovative tests, tools and protocols are now enabling the capability to conduct dementia screening at greater scale, more rapidly, and to generate more nuanced findings. These innovations range from digital devices capable of recording multiple markers of dementia, to blood-based biomarker tests, to AI-enabled analysis of patient histories and clinical data. NEHI’s latest report surveys these emerging innovations and the implications they pose for clinical practice and U.S. health policy. We hope you will give our report a look and share your comments with us. We will be following up on release of the report in the coming weeks --- watch this space! #dementia #Alzheimer's #Medicare #elderservices #geriatrics #digitalhealth #populationhealth https://lnkd.in/ekxRHjpz
