🌡️Did you know Columbus has the fastest-growing urban heat island effect among major cities in the country? Urban areas here can be up to 24°F hotter than nearby rural areas, with downtown, Hilltop, and Southside reaching up to 13°F warmer than surrounding neighborhoods. This is due to the high density of buildings, roads, and heat-absorbing materials replacing natural vegetation. Children, older adults, and those who are experiencing illnesses are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses and poor air quality. Let's work together to combat this and create a healthier environment for all! 🌍💚 Here are a few simple ways you can contribute to help reduce your carbon footprint: - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Minimize waste by recycling and reusing items whenever possible. - Conserve Energy: Turn off lights, unplug devices, and use energy-efficient appliances. - Sustainable Transportation: Walk, bike, carpool, or use public transport to reduce carbon emissions. - Support Renewable Energy: Advocate for and invest in renewable energy sources like solar and wind. - Plant Trees: Trees absorb CO2 and provide oxygen. Join a tree-planting initiative or start your own! - Educate & Advocate: Spread awareness and advocate for policies that protect our planet. Every action counts! Let’s work together to protect our environment for future generations. 🌳✨ Thank you to our friends Human Service Chamber of Franklin County for making climate change a top priority! #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GoGreen

August is Back to School Month. Sometimes the thought of returning to school can bring on stress, excitement, and anxiety. Whether you are a teacher or a student here are a few tips to help ease you back into your school year: Establish a Routine: Start getting into a regular sleep and wake schedule a week or two before school starts. This helps your body adjust and reduces the shock of early mornings. Set Realistic Goals: Think about what you want to achieve in the upcoming school year, whether it’s academic goals, making new friends, or joining a club. Practice Relaxation Techniques: Learn some relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to help calm your mind. Stay Positive: Focus on the exciting aspects of returning to school, like seeing friends and participating in favorite activities or subjects. Talk About It: Share your feelings with friends, family, or a school counselor. Sometimes, just talking about your anxiety can make it feel more manageable. Stay Active: Engage in physical activities or exercise, as it helps reduce stress and improve mood. Healthy Habits: Maintain a balanced diet, stay hydrated, and avoid excessive caffeine or sugar intake, which can increase anxiety. Limit Screen Time: Especially before bed, limit your screen time to ensure better sleep quality. Both students and teachers can benefit from acknowledging their feelings and taking proactive steps to manage their anxiety. Remember, it’s normal to feel anxious about new beginnings, and seeking support is always a good idea.

🌡️ Stay Safe and Cool This Summer! 🌡️ As we navigate dangerously high temperatures this summer, it's crucial to connect with resources that can help. Here are some valuable programs and services from our community partners and area stakeholders to keep in mind: 🔹 @franklincountypublichealth offers a range of resources, including the Summer Crisis Program (SCP) through the The Breathing Association providing electric utility assistance to help households manage cooling costs. 🔹 LifeCare Alliance runs a free fan program for families with chronic health conditions, and Franklin County Senior Options offers fans to seniors without air conditioning. 🔹 @impactca has a Summer Crisis Program, helping income-eligible Ohioans stay cool by providing assistance with electric bills or central air conditioning repairs. Thank you to Human Service Chamber of Franklin County for helping compile this list of resources. Stay cool, stay safe, and make use of these essential resources! 🌬️💧 #HeatSafety #CommunityResources #StayCool #SummerSafety #PublicHealth
