So proud to get a shoutout from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s blog on our work with the Plain Language Policy Dashboard! Huge mazel tov to Carrie McWhorter, MSW for her work on this. “We’re proud to be part of a movement that supports people with disabilities in contributing fully to their workplaces and communities. One example that stands out for me is New Disabled South’s Plain Language Policy Dashboard. It’s translating complex legislation into language that everyone can understand. Like us, New Disabled South recognizes the game-changing power of making information accessible to people with disabilities. Let’s continue working together to make inclusion and health equity a reality for all.” Read full article here: https://lnkd.in/dzGmwbrC

My organization New Disabled South has distributed $70,000 worth of $150 and $300 payments to disabled folks impacted by Hurricane Helene. Still, we have more than $130,000 worth of requests that we would like to fulfill. And, we anticipate more coming in from folks impacted by Hurricane Milton. If you are able, we would really appreciate your donation to our mutual aid fund. Go to https://lnkd.in/ea-RrAm9 to give. And please share if you can. Thank you!

I’ve been so excited to share this! I’m a big nerdy fan of Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) and I am so grateful that in this summer’s issue, there is a feature on the organization I founded and lead New Disabled South! I truly am blown away and so honored. Thank you Marianne Dhenin. You can read the online version here! https://lnkd.in/em4ME_hA • • • • • • • • • ID: First image is the cover of the summer issue of the Stanford Social Innovation Review. It shows a crumpled up $100 bill and the headline, “Strategic Philanthropy Has Failed. What Next?” The second image is a picture of an article titled, “Disability Organizing. New Disabled South advocates for disability justice and enfranchisement in the US South.”

There are nearly 40 million voters with disabilities in the United States. Despite the huge number of disabled voters, presidential debates are often inaccessible rarely address disability issues, if at all. The American Association of People with Disabilities sent a letter to CNN urging the network to make the debate broadcast accessible and urging moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash to ask questions related to issues that are important to people with disabilities. Ninety national and state disability organizations and our allies joined us in this call. Disabled people deserve to have accessible, relevant information about the positions of those seeking elected office. I hope CNN will be responsive to our call and make the upcoming debate more accessible and inclusive of the 1 in 4 American adults with disabilities. https://lnkd.in/eApUh-Ar
