This weekend's concerts are chaired by NWS Trustee Ira Birns and his wife Arlenis in honor of his mother, Edith, who was a Holocaust survivor. "These concerts especially resonated with me, as in addition to celebrating the life and legacy of Anne Frank, they also serve as a tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust and the resilience of those who survived, including a heartfelt tribute to my mother Edith, and her family, who I never had the opportunity to meet. In September of 1996, New World Symphony traveled to Costa Rica with guest soloist Nestor Torres and guest conductor Richard Hoenich for a tour that began with two performances at the grand Teatro Nacional and a final show at the then newly opened Costa Rica Marriott Hacienda Belen. Three performances, three different programs, and more than 100 musicians on stage in three days. Quite a feat!
