Violinist Joshua Bell’s first appearance with a (very young) NWS took place on October 8, 1988. Joshua performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor and the program was featured in our first appearance on Great Performances in 1989. Throwback Tuesday: As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we look back to October 2021 when the New World Center proudly collaborated with New Land Theatricals to stage the América Viva! Panamerican Benefit Gala. This dance and music extravaganza celebrated the “mestizaje” (multiracial inclusion) of the Americas, with 25 dancers, musicians—including legendary musician Paquito D’Rivera—and singers on stage depicting how a “mestizo soul” was born in the Americas from the mixture of Spanish, African, and Indigenous cultures. It was all set in the spectacular, video-immersive environment of the Michael Tilson Thomas Performance Hall. Twelve nonprofits from across the Americas, through the América Viva Alliance (AVA), joined together for a common cause, raising $375K and feeding over 30,000 children. ______________________________ Throwback Tuesday: Al cierre del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, recordamos octubre de 2021 cuando el New World Center colaboró con orgullo con New Land Theatricals para presentar la América Viva!
