About us

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America. NYCHA is committed to increasing opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA’s 326 public housing developments around the five boroughs, and another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program. To fulfill its vital mission and even better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies are helping NYCHA to address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of developments, to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.

  • 🔐 October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! 🔐 This month, we’re focusing on three essential actions to help keep you safe online: STOP, LOOK, and THINK. In collaboration with the New York City Office of Technology & Innovation's Cyber Command, here are key steps to reduce risky online behavior: 🚫 STOP before clicking links or opening attachments. Phishing attacks remain a favorite tool of cyber criminals. Verify the sender and ensure the content is legitimate. 👀 LOOK for fake links by hovering over them, and always verify suspicious requests. 🤔 THINK before responding to unsolicited requests for sensitive information, and report suspicious activity immediately. In today’s digital age, protecting your data is more important than ever. Ensure your devices are up to date, use complex passwords, and consider adding layers of protection like fingerprint scanning or code verification. Stay vigilant and secure. Together, we can outsmart cyber criminals! https://on.nyc.gov/4dzr7ux #NYCHA #Cybersecurity

  • 🚮✨ Exciting news! New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)’s state-of-the-art trash terminal at the Polo Grounds is now live! This $31M vacuum-powered system will help eliminate rodents and pests. 🐀❌ With 150 horsepower fans, garbage from 31-story towers will be sucked through 20-inch steel pipes at speeds of up to 60 mph! 💨💼 Each week, 30 tons of trash will go directly into collection bins. The $31 million design-build construction project is set to enhance the quality of life for over 4,000 residents, improve working conditions for building staff, and save the Authority hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in operating costs by utilizing an underground pipe system to collect trash and recycling. • 🌱 Celebrating Impact: Green City Force Graduates Its 27th Cohort! 🎓 On September 9, Green City Force (GCF) proudly graduated its 27th cohort at CUNY LaGuardia Community College's Performing Arts Center. This remarkable group of young New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents, aged 18 to 24, completed a six-month service term focused on sustainability and green technologies. Through the AmeriCorps program, participants engaged in full-time service projects, gained valuable training, and received career placement assistance, all while earning a stipend.
