About us

Founded in 1868, the NYCDS represents one of the largest groups of practicing dentists in the country and is the largest component dental society in New York State. Members range from new graduates beginning their careers to those nearing and at retirement. General dentists, as well as a full spectrum of specialty practices, are represented within the membership. It is a service-focused organization driven to meet the needs of practicing dental professionals, as well as students and residents, by serving as the preeminent information and education hub for dentistry in Manhattan. Governed by an eighteen member board, over twenty volunteer committees help to steer the course of the Society to implement a five year strategic, “Future Focus,” plan. A professional headquarters staff based at the NYCDS midtown Manhattan headquarters works to implement the many programs and services offered to members. The mission of the Society is to promote the cultivation of the art and science of dentistry; to elevate professional standards; to foster fraternal relations among dentists; to safeguard the interests of the public and the profession; to elevate the standards and improve the methods of dental education; to secure the enactment and enforcement of just dental laws; to enlighten and direct public opinion in relation to oral health; and to secure funds by dues, deeds or gifts, bequests or otherwise and to hold and administer the same for the objectives stated above.
