Fun Fact Friday: The Science Behind Exfoliation--Chemical vs. Physical 🧪✨ •Chemical Exfoliation: Utilizes active ingredients like Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs), or Poly Hydroxy Acids (PHAs) to enzymatically break down desmosomes between corneocytes, facilitating the natural desquamation process. AHAs (e.g., glycolic acid) are water-soluble and improve cell turnover, while BHAs (e.g., salicylic acid) are lipid-soluble, making them effective for targeting sebaceous follicles. 📉 •Physical Exfoliation: Relies on mechanical action via microbeads, brushes, or natural particulates to physically abrade the stratum corneum. While effective at removing surface debris, excessive use may disrupt the skin barrier and increase transepidermal water loss (TEWL). 🌊 Both methods enhance skin radiance, but their mechanisms and skin tolerability differ significantly. 🔬 #nyscc #ExfoliationMechanisms #AHAvsBHA #Desquamation #StratumCorneum #CosmeticFormulationScience
