We LOVED having Centurions volunteer for our "Shine A Light on DV with Newhouse" campaign! The Apex Cohort of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions Leadership Program spent a few days in Nebraska City and volunteered their time to help us launch our campaign. A BIG thank you to all of them for helping to shine a light on the strength of survivors! Sign up for us to send you a purple light bulb today! >> newhousekc.org/shine

We asked survivors at Newhouse “What would you say to someone who is facing domestic violence?” We are literally shining a light on survivors for our Shine a Light campaign. Survivors joined us for a photo shoot where they stood behind a curtain with a light shining on them as they shared different poses and words of wisdom. It was amazing to see kids and adults have fun with this powerful photo shoot where they could remain anonymous.    Who will you shine for in October? newhousekc.org/shine #newhousekc

What a magical night at Terra Luna by Quixotic Entertainment LLC at the Overland Park Arboretum! The Quixotic Foundation generously shared tickets with our team so that our clients could be immersed in a beautiful evening of live music, performances, aerial acrobatics, and more. We are proud to be a safe shelter providing life-transforming services but it’s special memories like these that we love our clients to experience. Thank you, Quixotic, for your support!

A survivor's advice: "Make an exit plan, and that doesn’t need to include your material possessions. My stuff was replaceable, but I wasn’t." After years of insults, accusations, and emotional and mental abuse, Christine's husband escalated to physical violence and she knew she had to get out. “That was when it clicked. I left and did not go back,” Christine says. The importance of safety planning can't be emphasized enough. If you or a loved one are experiencing domestic violence, please call our hotline at 816-471-5800 to speak with an advocate and create a safety plan. Read the rest of Christine's story ("I Never Came Back"), and stories of other survivors at https://lnkd.in/gy5QDYz8.
