These are survivors at Newhouse - shown in silhouette for safety and anonymity as we literally 'Shined a Light' on survivors for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As they stepped behind the curtain and struck a pose, we asked them what their super power is. "Being able to help others," said a mother. Another woman said, "kindness and my humor." A young man said "love." These survivors are resilient, brave, and caring. It takes incredible strength to walk away from everything into the unknow, and they inspire us! 💜

Pumpkin painting party! 🎃🎨🎉 Last week, families at Newhouse helped prep for fall by decorating pumpkins. We want to give a big thanks to the Hy-Vee on 95th St. for donating pumpkins, and to Laura Hay Humphrey Foundation for donating paint and craft supplies!

While KC's been shining, so have the smiles of our kids at Newhouse! Our children's team has been busy with fun-filled with trips to Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden and Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch, and putting on a GLOW PARTY at the shelter. Our little ones deserve safe, engaging, hands-on experiences, and we believe in fostering exploration and new interactions that spark curiosity and creativity. We are committed to investing in and influencing the next generation, knowing this is where we truly have the power to break the cycle of domestic violence. 🫶
