  • We were proud to be part of the inaugural Impact Fair hosted by the Academy for Local Leadership at National Louis University! This inspiring event was a great opportunity to connect with ALL Chicago’s fellows—21 passionate individuals nearing the end of their 8-month learning program. Through ‘speed dating’ conversations, we shared insights about the impactful work NewRoot and other community organizations are doing to create change. It was energizing to hear about the fellows' goals—whether running for office, volunteering with nonprofits, or organizing within their communities. A heartfelt thank you to ALL Chicago for inviting us to join this meaningful event. Don’t forget to follow Academy for Local Leadership to learn more about their incredible work and how you can get involved.

  • Conflict is inevitable in any school setting, but how it is managed can make all the difference. Peace Rooms provide students with the tools they need to resolve disputes constructively, reducing the likelihood of future conflicts and suspensions. This not only helps individual students but also contributes to a safer, more harmonious school environment, where all students can focus on learning and personal growth. NewRoot remains at the forefront of restorative justice across CPS, directly supporting 451 unique students through our Peace Rooms. With 94% of these students learning skills to resolve future conflicts, we are creating safer and more supportive school communities.

  • In the 2023-24 school year, NewRoot continues to lead the way in restorative practices, working with over 1,500 school-based adults, positively impacting the school experience for more than 150,000 CPS students. When educators and school staff are equipped with restorative practices, they can address conflicts and challenges in a way that strengthens relationships rather than breaking them down. This approach helps create a school culture where students feel valued, safe, and supported, which is crucial for their academic and social development.

I've been in a training workshop to learn to host and facilitate circles for community building, community support, peace, harm repair, and creating sustainable spaces. The training is offered by NewRoot Learning Institute and it is incredible! I've already hosted a small circle and feel my capacity, skills, and knowledge growing. I'm an avid learner and love the challenge of picking up new skills and implementing them. I can't wait to see what the next two days of training hold in store for me. There are some incredible facilitators and highly experienced participants and every single minute I've spent with all of them has been mind-blowing. I cannot recommend this enough! #CommunityBuilding #CircleKeeperInTraining #LearningNewSkills
