Principal Vincent Izuegbu is in his fourth year as principal of Ida B. Wells Preparatory Elementary Academy, an IB World School committed to giving Bronzeville students a global perspective. Each year, he leads students on international trips, visiting a country in Europe and one in Africa. In 2025, the destinations are Spain and South Africa, reinforcing the school’s mission to connect students with their roots and broaden their horizons. With 91.1% of the student body identifying as Black, these trips are designed to help students explore their heritage and foster resilience, reminding them of their ancestral journey. In October, during Principal Appreciation Month, his image appears on buses, highlighting his dedication to education and the vital role of school leaders. Vincent’s leadership is shaped by his experiences and his mother’s influence as an educator. He emphasizes the importance of integrity and fairness in building trust within the school community. Under his guidance, Wells Prep has formed partnerships that pave the way for students to earn college credit, ensuring a pipeline from pre-K to higher education. With accolades such as being one of Chicago’s two Apple Distinguished Schools, Vincent is focused on fostering global citizenship among students, aiming to empower them to tackle real-world challenges like environmental sustainability and social issues, ultimately shaping compassionate, informed leaders for the future.
