Did you catch this recap of the Essence Festival’s SOKO MRKT Stage panel “How to Support Black-Owned Businesses in Retail,” by Essence Communications Inc.? The panel moderated by #NewVoicesFamily KAZMALEJE Co-founder & CEO, LaToya Stirrup and featuring New Voices Family Founders, Hustle & Hope's Ashley Sutton, Certified W/MBE and Boyd Cru Wines' Jon'll Boyd, MBA alongside Retail While Black's Marissa Kearney was excellent. The article is a worthwhile read on how we can better support Black founders in retail: https://lnkd.in/eNPbpmx9 “The biggest and most obvious thing is to shop. Shop Black-owned brands at all these stores. It’s great to have a ‘yes queen’ and a like on a post but take that to the counter. Use your dollars to support at the actual retail stores,” emphasized Sutton. “It is extremely challenging not only to get into retail but also to stay in retail.” Hence the reason Boyd urged festivalgoers to shop Black all year round. “It’s really important for sustainability,” said Boyd." #FlashbackFriday #ESSENCE30 #RetailwhileBlack #SupportBlackownedBusinesses

An interesting read from Essence Communications Inc.: https://lnkd.in/dTwZ8Wvb "LinkedIn recently released data showing that 77% of Black professionals aim to become entrepreneurs this year. Andrew McCaskill, a career expert with the platform, says this suggests we’re entering an era poised for a Black Business Boom, but while many aim to be their own boss, another 63% aren’t prepared to do so." #Entrepreneurship

Do yourself a favor and end your week on a high note. WATCH our New Voices Foundation Learning Lab™ LIVE 86: "Financial First Aid - Practical Steps to Stabilize Your Business w/ Blaze Group," Replay. This session contained a wealth of knowledge to help you set your business up for financial success. Casey Ariel Thobias packed this insightful session with so many actionable steps that it was hard to choose a few to highlight but here are three [3] gems that stood out to us: 💎There are three key strategies for quick cash conversion in your business: 1. Accounts Receivable Financing: leverage your outstanding client invoices to get cash from the bank or financing service. They will give you the amount of your invoice less a fee (usually 3%) and you will pay it back when your client pays you. 2. Lines of Credit: if your business is in good standing with your bank, ask for a credit line. This is a line of credit you can use and payback consistently to keep your business running. Be mindful to draw down only when necessary and pay it off regularly to keep it available for emergencies or unforeseen business expenses. 3. Equipment Financing: use your business equipment/tools as collateral to acquire a loan in a pinch. 💎"ONLY Access credit when you have RELIABLE cash flow to pay it back. If you're winging it, don't do it."-Casey Thobias You don't want to accumulate debt that you aren't 100% sure you'll be able to pay off. 💎During a recession, you want to bend NOT break. Identify the "gunshot wound" problem for your consumer and solve that issue. This is the pain point that even in hard times, they will be willing to pay to address. For more practical tips and insights on how to stabilize your business, WATCH the full replay here: https://lnkd.in/dUajuKu8 After completing the session, if you need help with implementing these practical tips reach out to #NewVoicesFamily Blaze Group. #PurposeAccessCapitalExpertise #BusinessFinances #Financialplanning #sustainablebusiness
