✨ We did it! Sassy™ apples are officially the winners of the Primary Sector Award at the 2024 New Zealand Food Awards! 🎉 Developed over more than 12 years of natural plant breeding, the judges loved that Sassy™ was crisp, bold, and packed with flavour—and that the long shelf life and in-built pest resistance makes Sassy™ apples as sustainable as they are delicious! It's been a dream team effort, from our first growing partners, Golden Bay Fruit and Taylor Corp, who took a chance on this new variety and started to share it with the world. The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited are to thank for their dedication to the lengthy R&D process and Prevar for helping to bring new varieties like Sassy™ to life. It’s been a journey, over a decade in the making—but we’re just getting started! 🌟 We couldn’t be prouder to represent the future of New Zealand produce and sit alongside the other amazing finalists and winners - congrats to all! Thanks of course to the award sponsor Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and organisers Massey University. Our partners in Australia are doing a fantastic job growing Sassy™, expanding their plantings after a "fruitful" season.
Cliff and his team at Merrigum Orchard near Shepparton recently planted some young SASSY™ apple trees. SASSY™ apples are known for their sweet taste and crispy bite! Beautiful fruit from our farms to your fruit bowl. 🍎♥️♥️🍎 #SassyApples #FarmToTable #Apples #RedlandFruit #AussieGrown

We had a fantastic series of meetings in Hong Kong during Asia Fruit Logistica last week, with the cherry on the cake our Posh™ Champagne event to celebrate the commercial launch of this exciting new variety. Posh's Honeycrisp parentage gives it a delicate almost champagne-like texture and classic round apple shape while its Sciros parentage gives it a stunning wrap around red colour. We're delighted with this year's crop and looking forward to more market feedback! #anewclassofapple Prevar The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited

🎉 Big news from the orchard! Sassy Apples is officially a finalist in the New Zealand Food Awards, and we’re feeling pretty *crisp* about it! 🍎✨ Out of over 300 entries, Sassy made the final four in the Primary Sector Award category! This award celebrates products that stay true to their roots, with minimal processing and maximum impact. A huge shoutout to the brilliant minds at The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited who spent 15 years perfecting Sassy through thousands of natural cross-breeds. The result? An apple that’s not only gorgeous and delicious but also grower friendly. 🌟 We’ve been working hard to bring this apple to market, and this recognition is the cherry (or should we say, apple?) on top! Here’s to more innovations that keep the industry fresh and exciting. 🍏🙌 #SassyApples #NZFoodAwards #Innovation #Sustainability #Teamwork #NextGenApples Prevar Golden Bay Fruit

as Wildfire™ Gala wraps up harvest next door, it's Sassy™ PremA093 cv.'s time to shine. The trial trees here in Wapato, Washington colored beautifully and, as one can see, set a very nice crop. Sassy™ is managed by Prevar and licensed to Next Generation Apples for worldwide production. Lynnell Brandt Tyler Brandt Kristopher Bailey Todd Strampher

"What’s beautiful, red, sweet and crunchy? Tony Martin’s favourite kind of apple: Sassy." In case you missed it! https://lnkd.in/gGMiE-PH
