Another exciting milestone for Nichols Architects: Ocean Park has been unanimously approved by the Fort Lauderdale Planning and Zoning Board! This two-building project sits on a long, narrow site, directly across from the city’s fire station and the stunning Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Designed to maximize its unique location, the project features sweeping terraces that provide uninterrupted views of surrounding parks and waterways. The pronounced vertical elements, along with curved terraces and window walls, seamlessly blend the indoors with the outdoors, creating a strong connection between the natural environment and living spaces. Organic colors and lush landscaping reinforce this design vision, unifying the two distinct buildings while enhancing the overall visual experience. With a 14-story, 76-unit multifamily residential building and a 5-story parking garage that includes an amenities deck with a pickleball court, Ocean Park is a well-rounded, thoughtfully designed development. Last night, the ULI Vision Awards were a celebration not only of individual achievements but of the enduring legacy of visionaries shaping Miami’s future. Held at the iconic Loews Miami Beach, a project we proudly designed over 25 years ago, the event reminded us of the power of architecture to stand the test of time. We were honored to witness Jonathan Tisch, whose leadership brought Loews to life, receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. It was equally inspiring to see Alfonso Costa Jr. named Young Leader of the Year for his contributions to Miami’s continued growth. We are thrilled to be collaborating with him on the exciting Miami World Center Block C project. It was also a pleasure to reconnect with so many friends and partners in the industry—sharing moments that underscore the importance of collaboration in shaping our city. The evening celebrated past and present, legacy and future, and reaffirmed that, with each generation, new leaders emerge to build on the foundations laid before them. A New Chapter for Mira Mar Plaza! We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Seaward Development once again, this time for the restoration of Mira Mar Plaza in downtown Sarasota, a project that will blend historic charm with modern living. Our plans include bringing back some of the building’s original 1922 features while introducing two 18-story towers in a Mediterranean-inspired style. With open courtyards and outdoor spaces, we’re aiming for seamless connection with the surrounding area. Several workshops have been held to present the project to the city and community to gather feedback, which has been nothing but positive. Partnering with REG Architects Inc. for historic preservation, we’re committed to delivering a design that honors the past while looking towards the future.
