When it comes to staffing workers' compensation coverage, it's time to choose a partner and stop working with vendors. Vendors win, regardless of whether or not your staffing company does. A partner wins when you win! A little advice, regardless of whether you decide to work with us or not: 1. Ask your retail agent how many staffing companies they represent. Not their agency, them. Most staffing companies' retail agents have no more than one, maybe two staffing company clients. Somehow, that doesn't qualify those agents as staffing industry experts. 2. Ask your retail agent to send you the submission narrative or executive summary they submitted to the underwriter(s) last year when they 'shopped' your account. 99% of staffing industry underwriting submissions don't include a narrative or executive summary regarding the staffing company, its management, claims history (shock losses), fluctuations in payrolls, industry focus, or growth goals. But on the outside chance that they did submit one, ask them to send you a copy to learn how they represented your company to the marketplace. 3. Ask your retail agent for the Loss Pick they calculated for your past 3-5 years of claims history. The underwriter will calculate this. But if the agent doesn't, how will they know the underwriter did it correctly? And how can they address any issues proactively in the narrative or executive summary? 4. Ask your retail agent how much their company made (commission) from insuring your company. Don't be shy. Most professional retail agents are very transparent about the revenue received. Then, ask yourself if their revenue is commensurate with the services that your company receives. If the revenue is over $50K, did they discuss obtaining a net-of-commission quote and charging an annual fee for service? The most important decision a staffing company owner makes regarding their insurance coverage is who to choose to represent them. Insuring a staffing company is not like insuring a retail store, so choose wisely! You can also call us, and we'll recommend an independent retail agent who specializes in the temporary staffing industry.
