New Jersey Business Assembly unequivocally condemns the heinous assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists. Terrorism is never justified and the unprovoked barrage of thousands of rockets, the massacre and maiming of thousands of civilians with malice of forethought, and the hostage taking of approximately 200 innocents has no place within the community of nations. Israel has the right to defend itself and its people against such aggression. There is, and can be, no equivalency, between Hamas’ invasion -- its massacre and hostage-taking -- and Israel’s military response to free hostages and to end the Hamas aggression. Moreover, Hamas’ embedding of its fighters among its own civilian population -- using its own innocents as human shields, and its preventing the civilian evacuation from battle areas -- displays the most callous disregard of life, and is a war crime against its own people. Hamas has made abundantly clear in its founding document and statements right up through the current day that its purpose is to eradicate the State of Israel and its Jewish population. Given this foundational premise , and its butchery in furtherance of that aim, Hamas must be uprooted from Gaza, so that the people of Israel and the people of Gaza can live in peace, and build a future as good neighbors, and not as enemies. Moreover, to remove Hamas from power is an essential step to the realization of a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, which is the path to a true peace. NJBA offers its deepest sympathies to Israelis and to the civilian population of Gaza -- each the victims of Hamas atrocities. During this most difficult time, it is essential that Israel take all reasonable steps to minimize civilian casualties, and that nations of good will unite in efforts to provide humanitarian support to civilians, to open the Rafah Crossing and to free the hostages.
