In one year since the NJSBA launched the Member’s Assistance Program, more than 2,000 NJSBA members and those in their immediate family have sought mental health counseling through the service for stress and anxiety related to their careers, substance abuse, depression and other mental health disorders. New Jersey State Bar Association President William H. Mergner Jr. visited incoming first-year law students at Seton Hall University School of Law and Rutgers Law School-Camden to offer words of encouragement and administer the Lawyer’s Pledge, an oath that outlines the ideals of the profession. “Today, the New Jersey State Bar Association officially welcomes you as a new member. You are now part of a network of more than 16,000 attorneys who belong to the NJSBA, who sat where you sit now and know the challenges you will experience,” Mergner said. “You may have first-day jitters, feel excited or anxious, but also know this: you are not alone.
