The New Jersey State Bar Association appeared before the state Supreme Court to challenge ACPE Opinion 745, which banned certified attorneys from paying referral fees to out-of-state lawyers. The opinion harms both attorneys and the public, the NJSBA argued to the Court. It upends preexisting referral arrangements and disincentivizes attorneys across state lines from sending clients to knowledgeable New Jersey attorneys. Thanks to Diana C. Manning for arguing on the NJSBA’s behalf and attorneys from organizations around the state who joined the argument - Terrence Hull, Glennon Troublefield, Laura C. Sutnick, Sharon Balsamo, Eric Kahn, Annabelle Steinhacker, Michael Donahue and George Shamy. #NJStateBar
