The Holland Society of New York honored Consul General Ahmed Dadou with the 2024 Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement, recognizing his outstanding diplomatic contributions to the City of New York. Founded in 1885, the Holland Society preserves the history of the Dutch in New Netherland through research and programs. In his acceptance speech, Dadou commended the Holland Society for keeping Dutch history alive and promoting a nuanced understanding of New Amsterdam's past, including its complex aspects. Before the event, the Holland Society and NYC Department of Parks & Recreation collaborated to re-plant a pear tree on 3rd Ave and 13th St, right where an earlier tree stood on Dutch Manhattan in the mid-1600s. Thank you to the Holland Society and President Sally Quackenbush Mason for this honor and your tireless efforts to preserve Dutch-American history. #Netherlands #Heritage

New York’s famous 5th Avenue will get a major makeover, co-designed by Dutch company Arcadis. The proposed design expands sidewalks by 46 percent, shortens crosswalks making for safer crossings, reduces the number of traffic lanes from five to three, and adds plantings and lighting for aesthetics and safety. The redesign of the stretch between Central Park and 42nd Street is inspired by some of the famous shopping boulevards in Europe. Arcadis worked together with Sam Schwartz Engineering, and Field Operations on the first major redesign in the avenue’s 200-year history. The project is led by City of New York and the Future of Fifth Partnership and will be completed by summer 2025. #Netherlands #Innovation #EconomicTies

An evening with Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf at New York’s High Line 🛤️ On the 15th birthday of the celebrated elevated park, NYC honors the world’s most famous garden designer Piet Oudolf, his unique artistry, and his pioneering nature-inspired approach. Crowds came out for this special evening to meet the visionary behind the park’s four-season garden design. Oudolf was integral in translating the wild magic of the self-seeded landscape of the once-derelict railway into the public green space you see today. The event delved into Oudolf’s design ethos, the power of naturalistic gardens, and his experiences with the High Line’s ever-changing landscape over the last 15+ years. Oudolf joined in conversation with acclaimed author and photographer, Ngoc Minh Ngo, and High Line Senior Director of Horticulture, Richard Hayden, hosted by the High Line’s executive director Alan van Capelle. What an evening! And it all began with a bean. The Dutch-NYC art scene came together in Brooklyn for Stimulus Interactiva, an immersive art experience with Dutch artist and chef Jasper Udink ten Cate and Creative Chef Studio at Powerhouse Arts, Inc. An evening centered around the bean: the earliest food that Dutch colonial settlers discovered and planted when they arrived in Lenapehoking (New York Area), 400 years ago. In collaboration with the unique artist community at Powerhouse Arts, Udink ten Cate created 400 porcelain beans, after different types of beans from all over the world. The beans were fired in a kiln by Dutch company Blaauw. The guest connected over a meal, based on beans and other local products. Among them Dutch NYC-based artists Marja Samsom, Antonis Pittas, Deborah Jack, Dion Rosina, Lesia Topolnyk, Wijnanda Deroo, Musoke Babra Nalwoga, and Wieteke Heldens. Head of Culture Pauline Genee applauds the love that went into this unique NL-US collaboration that brings together history, culture and food: “It brings history into the present; joins the talents of Dutch and New York artists; and celebrates food that sustains the earth and all of us; And it showcases what art does best— connecting us. Thank you to Powerhouse Arts, and all its artists and creative team -including Biata Roytburd, Dennis Hrehowsik, Luther Davids, Liz Neumark, Great Performances, and Eric Shiner- for organizing this cultural exchange. Powerhouse Arts (PHA) hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the wellbeing of artists and the communities to which they belong. #Netherlands #FUTURE400 #innovation

📣 The Netherlands Innovation Network in Boston is calling on all women’s innovators in women’s health from the #UnitedStates and the #Netherlands to submit joint proposals for writing a white paper on key enabling technologies with a women’s health impact. 🩺 Women’s health has come a long way – but there is still a huge gap in the development of novel solutions to treat conditions that solely or disproportionately affect women. From Massachusetts to the Netherlands, problems with #funding, #data, #genderbias, exclusion from #clinicaltrials and more persist during every stage of the innovation pipeline, preventing women from receiving effective and life-changing treatment. This is why we need YOUR ideas about transatlantic #partnerships to further develop these technologies and novel solutions that have a women’s health impact. 🤝 €5,000 is available in funding per white paper. This funding can be used to explore a potential partnership between American and Dutch organizations, or to expand on a topic both parties are already working on. We encourage applicants to use this opportunity to highlight interesting bilateral innovations and R&D initiatives. For more information, the eligibility criteria and more, see here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaGDQGPp 📝 Submit your proposal here: https://lnkd.in/eJxbF-rb 📅 Deadline for proposal submission: October 15, 2024 📧 For any questions, contact the #NLinBoston team: Kim Tran or Tazrin Hossain or email NIN@nost-boston.org To learn more about the ten key enabling technologies of the Dutch National Technology Strategy ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGYGi-cz #Innovation #WomensHealth #WhitePaper #Research #Development | Netherlands Innovation Network in the United States | Innovatie Attaché Netwerk / IA (Netherlands Innovation Network) | Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York | Health~Holland International | Juri Roerink | Nicole Dirksen | Lennart Viveen | Niels van Leeuwen | Sjanna Bosma | Carmen van Vilsteren |
