We had an incredible time at Opportunity Finance Network's 40th Annual Conference! Among the many #OFN40 highlights: 🌟 We participated in a walking tour of Little Tokyo organized by Little Tokyo Service Center and Genesis LA, where we had the privilege of hearing from NFF’s Underwriting Director, Athena Lew. 🌟 Our CEO, Aisha Benson, was a featured speaker on "The Capitalization Conundrum," a panel on growing real estate loan funds in an era of change. 🌟 NFF’s Vice President of Learning & Impact Jina Paik and Senior Director of Learning & Impact Angela Francis led a session on CDFIs and theories of change. We’re already counting down the days to next year’s conference!

In honor of #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth, we’re excited to spotlight our first-ever international project in the Philippines: Assets, Agency, and Trust (AAT). A partnership between 32 community groups in the Philippines, USAID Philippines, GlobalGiving, Center for Disaster Preparedness, The Global Fund for Community Foundations, and NFF, our goal was to customize our resources to support community leaders in the Global South as they reclaimed power in their relationships with international development agencies. “Just because you're in need does not mean that you shouldn't get quality food.” – Thoai Nguyen, CEO of SEAMAAC Aggregated census data might suggest that Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities in America are thriving, but the reality for many API refugees and immigrants – especially those who have been in the U.S. for less than 20 years – is much more complex. A closer look reveals that these individuals often face significant challenges like food insecurity. In South Philadelphia, SEAMAAC is providing essential support to bridge this gap. In honor of Filipino American History Month, we're proud to feature our client Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA), a nonprofit based in LA's Historic Filipinotown that enriches and empowers generations of Pilipino Americans and others by providing health and human services, community economic development, and arts and culture. In partnership with Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF), NFF consultants worked with SIPA through the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Financial Leadership Initiative, which was designed to build the capacities of seven API-led community-based organizations in the greater LA area.

"There has been an intentional, historical disinvestment in our communities, but today is a great day in East LA. The Los Angeles Community Land Trust Partnership Program, championed by Supervisor Hilda Solis, has provided us the opportunity to remove this building, 700 Simmons, the home of 10 families, from the speculative housing market... our homes are not commodities; they are homes, and they deserve to be safe, dignified, habitable, and affordable." -Vanessa Gonzalez, Co-Director, Fideicomiso Comunitario Tierra Libre (FCTL) Congratulations to Fideicomiso Comunitario Tierra Libre (FCTL) and Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) on yesterday's ribbon cutting for 700 Simmons! 🎉 In 2022, through NFF’s zero-interest Capital Advancing Racial Equity (CARE) Fund – funded by Wells Fargo's Open for Business Program and The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation – we partnered with FCTL and LTSC to provide a $200,000 predevelopment loan for essential repairs and renovations to the building. We proudly support this project and celebrate its impact on fostering affordable housing and community ownership in Los Angeles. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gRwgGk98.
