North Sails is the Worldwide leader in Sailmaking.
About us
North Sails is a unique sailmaker, built on a champion spirit. Founded in 1957 by Lowell North who applied an engineer’s logic to a traditional craft, North Sails transformed the industry and has become the world leader in sailmaking technology. North Sails is the largest division of North Technology Group and the brand’s history of innovation and winning has continued to produce generations of product breakthroughs and champions. North Sails holds the patent for 3Di, a unique composite construction process that produces high-performance sails that approach the shape holding of a rigid foil. North Sails is the sailmaker of choice on the majority of America’s Cup, Grand Prix, ocean race boats and Superyachts. North Sails offers a wide range of performance 3D and paneled sails for cruising sailors and is the world’s leading sailmaker for one-design classes with more National, World and Olympic Class victories than all other sailmakers combined. In 2014, the brand expanded their profile to include North Sails Apparel, a lifestyle collection that brings the sailmaker’s love of design and technology into fashion. North Sails adapts the sailmaking mastery into high-performance collections made to resist wind and water. The apparel collections continually develop element-defying materials that allow users to navigate the sea and modern life. Follow North Sails on Instagram www.instagram.com/northsails

Eastport Yacht Club set the stage for an unforgettable J/22 World Championship in Annapolis, hosting 48 competitive teams from 15 states and 4 countries. With an impressive lineup of North-powered boats, the championship saw a clean sweep as North Sails clients dominated all top 10 positions using the North Sails M7 Main, Big Foot jib and FR-1 kite. Travis Odenbach’s Honeybadger — dubbed “Mr. October” of the sailing world — took the early lead on Day 1 with steady breeze and then mastered shifty 12-18 knot conditions on Day 2. Day 3 brought standout 1-2 finishes from Brad Julian and Chase Quinn, but it was the final day’s 15-25 knots that sealed it. In intense planing conditions, Honeybadger claimed the title, posting all top-twelve finishes to secure Odenbach’s second world championship of the month, just weeks after his J/24 win. Honeybadger’s victory was followed by Baby Doll, led by Glen Darden with North expert Jackson Benvenutti and crew, and Cougar, helmed by North expert Will Welles onboard. Through every shift, breeze, and wave, the North Sails Annapolis loft was right there, from measuring each sail for precision to supporting the fleet with championship-winning designs. The 2024 Swan One Design Worlds concluded in Palma de Mallorca with North-powered teams taking World Champion titles across every class. With victories in the ClubSwan 36, 42, and 50 — North Sails affirmed its status as the go-to sailmaker for high-performance racing. Congratulations to all the champions and podium finishers! In the ClubSwan 36, Brazil’s Mamao, helmed by Haakon Lorentzen, won after a thrilling final-day race. Germany’s Olymp, led by Mark Bezner, took the ClubSwan 50 title, with North Sails teams capturing 2 of the podium positions, including Cuordileone in third. And in the ClubSwan 42, an all-Spanish podium saw Nadir in 1st, followed by Pez de Abril and Italy’s Canopo. Reflecting on the season, Giulio Desiderato, North Sails Italy Grand Prix Manager and mainsail trimmer on Django, said, “For North Sails, the season couldn’t have ended better—winning in all three classes. This competitive season showed the versatility and performance of our sails. We’re incredibly proud of our experts and designers, and grateful for the trust from top teams. We also celebrate the accomplishments of the new Swan 28, which didn’t race in Palma but will debut in the circuit next year, with all teams currently choosing North Sails. Now, it’s time to look forward to the next season!” Nacho Braquehais Sarrion, North Sails expert and mainsail trimmer on Olymp, added, “Our journey to this success began last year, with Jochen Schümann bringing me on to enhance the team’s performance. Upgrading to #North3Di sails made an immediate impact. At the Worlds, we improved daily, rising from 6th to secure the title on the final day. We’re excited to continue with North Sails as an integral part of the project next season.” Another unforgettable week for North-powered teams — 6 of the 9 podium spots secured and even more incredible additions to the #NSVictoryList. #NorthSails #ClubSwanRacing #Sailing 🎥 ClubSwan Racing | Tidal Pulse Media

In what was a phenomenal 45th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, North Sails-powered boats stood out with podium finishes in nearly every class, achieving top positions in 86% of all divisions. With 2️⃣ 0️⃣ podium spots across 12 out of 14 classes, the results reflect the reliability and competitive edge that North Sails brings to offshore racing. Leading the charge, Red Bandit, the TP52 skippered by Carl-Peter Forster, claimed both the IRC Overall and IRC 2 class titles. “Forecasts were all over the place right up to the start, and we faced everything from zero to 43 knots, with waves up to three meters,” shared navigator Joshua Weber. “After pulling out early last year, we came in better prepared, and it paid off—we finished strong.” With the team powered by a North Sails #EngineAboveDeck, Red Bandit was unstoppable in a fleet of over 100 competitors. Another standout moment came from Scallywag 100, helmed by David Witt, as they claimed Monohull Line Honors. Equipped with #North3Di sails, the custom 100-footer rose to the challenge in demanding conditions, leading the monohull fleet and reflecting the strength and reliability of North Sails. Across the classes, North-powered boats kept up their winning streak. In IRC 1, the Maxi 72 Balthasar captured a top spot, while Bewild and X-Day led the charge in IRC 3. The Podesta family’s Elusive II secured both the IRC 4 and ORC 4 titles, and Calypso, co-skippered by Sebastian Ripard and Daniel Calascione, took home victories in both IRC 5 and ORC 6. When the final scores were tallied, this year’s results leave no doubt: in offshore racing, North Sails isn’t just competing—it’s leading. The TP52 Red Bandit, powered by North Sails, has claimed overall victory in the 45th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Skipper Carl-Peter Forster and his young German crew faced it all—60-knot winds, fast currents through the Messina Strait, and those ever-tricky light winds. The team’s North Sails inventory proved crucial to their success. Joshua Weber, Navigator on Red Bandit, emphasized the sails' performance: "We introduced both a jib top and genoa staysail to our aero package this year, and they fit brilliantly, seeing plenty of hours in this race alongside our code zero and kites. Our North Helix J2, which performed exceptionally through 15-30 knots, even held up in the massive waves after Lampedusa. And the finishing leg on our white A2 with the Red Bandit logo was just the best possible way to finish the race." Weber also shared the crew's strategic preparation: "We stayed out of the worst of the storm on the first day and caught a good ride all the way to Passero. The favorable current through Messina helped separate us from the fleet. Red Bandit excels in light wind, and our plan paid off as we managed the conditions well." Red Bandit was also equipped with a high-performance carbon rig by Southern Spars, further enhancing their competitive edge. The crew also sported #NorthSailsPerformanceClothing, ensuring they were prepared for the challenging conditions they faced throughout the race. With superior technology and teamwork, Red Bandit becomes the third German yacht to conquer this prestigious event. Hats off to the entire crew for their outstanding performance and well-earned win. #NSVictoryList #RolexMiddleSeaRace #NorthSails #North3Di #RedBanditRacing #offshoreracing 📸 Kurt Arrigo | Rolex Middle Sea Race

The 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race saw North Sails-powered teams dominate from start to finish, navigating challenging conditions in the last 48 hours before a fresh southerly breeze gave them the boost to extend their lead. All three top finishers—Scallywag, Black Jack, and Lucky—showcased the North Sails performance advantage. Seng Huang Lee’s Scallywag 100 took Line Honours, expertly led by skipper David Witt and navigator Juan Vila, whose decisive call at Lampedusa secured their victory. The team completed the race in two days, 21 hours, 33 minutes, and 29 seconds, with the crew relying on North Sails Performance Clothing to meet the demands of the race. Remon Vos’ Black Jack 100 pushed Scallywag hard, finishing just 18 minutes behind after intense battles through critical points like Messina and Pantelleria. Despite their efforts, Scallywag’s final move proved decisive. Bryon Ehrhart’s Lucky crossed the line third, just 30 minutes after Black Jack, marking a strong return after last year’s retirement. With these top boats adding their names to the #NSVictoryList, North Sails continues to set the standard for high-performance sailing.
