“Composites have transformed aerospace by slashing fuel consumption, and now it’s shipping’s turn to harness this game-changing technology” – Rudy Jurg Even with nearly 30 years in the composites industry, Rudy Jurg was still blown away by the cutting-edge innovations in materials and technology at last week’s JEC World 2025, the leading global event for the composites industry. JEC World certainly lived up to its reputation, bringing together a global community of innovators across multiple sectors, including the maritime industry. Sustainability was a standout focus, with cutting-edge materials and processes on display that provide limitless opportunities for advancements in the future of sustainable commercial shipping. From automated tape laying and robotic sanding to 3D printing and CNC milling, the event showcased a wide range of technologies. This reflects the composites industry’s rapid growth and its drive to enable efficient, high-quality production—both key elements we’re leveraging at North Windships to advance sustainable propulsion in the maritime industry. A highlight for us was when Rudy presented our work on DynaRigs for superyachts, cargo, and cruise vessels, demonstrating how lightweight composites and wind propulsion can enhance maritime sustainability. He shared the stage with top French sailors and industry experts, and his session underscored the potential for composites to drive meaningful change in shipping—much like their impact in aerospace. All in all, we’re honoured to have connected with industry leaders at JEC World and remain committed to advancing sustainable shipping solutions. Thanks to everyone who connected with Rudy at JEC World, and thank you to the organizers for this invaluable platform! #JECWorld #Composites #MaritimeSustainability #MaritmeInnovation JEC Group

The horizon is clear: a NET-ZERO emissions Maritime Industry by 2050! But, as we've highlighted, the journey is a marathon, not a sprint. 2025 has already brought the immediate impact of the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, demanding urgent compliance. The years 2026-2028 will see further regulatory expansion and critical reviews, shaping the path towards our 2030 carbon intensity goals. The ultimate vision? A sustainable maritime industry by 2050. However, with the IMO's Alternative Fuel Uptake strategy targeting at least 5% alternative propulsion or fuel source by 2030, the FuelEU Maritime aiming for an 80% reduction by 2050, and of course the IMO's every increasing required reduction in total GHG emissions (70% by 2040) we have to ask... Do you have the strategies, and plans in place to meet the challenges of this transformation to a more sustainably powered/propelled fleet? #MaritimeInnovation #Decarbonization #NetZero2050 #NorthWindships

The shipping industry is in the middle of a green revolution. Last week, we covered the present changes rocking the shipping industry - but what's next? And more importantly, are you ready to ride the wave or be left behind? North Windships believes wholeheartedly in the power of wind propulsion and is committed to supporting the marine commercial transport industry through the critical years of 2025-2030, a period that will redefine maritime sustainability. Take a look below at these looming deadlines and act now to ensure your readiness. 2025: The Year of Reckoning is NOW 💠 Emissions Targets Tighten: Stricter targets demand immediate action. Non-compliance will be costly. 💠FuelEU Maritime Takes Effect: Prepare for new limits on greenhouse gas intensity. 💠40% Allowance Surrender: Shipping companies must surrender allowances for 40% of 2024 emissions. 2026: Expanding the Horizon 💠UK Joins the Fray: The UK Emissions Trading Scheme expands to include domestic maritime transport. 💠Emissions Trading Broadens: Schemes now cover Methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O). 💠70% Allowance Surrender: Shipping companies must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions. 💠IMO Reviews Carbon Intensity: The effectiveness of carbon intensity and rating systems will be under scrutiny. 2027: The Final Countdown 💠100% Allowance Surrender: Full compliance is mandatory, and shipping companies must surrender allowances for 100% of 2025 emissions. 2028: Setting the Course 💠IMO 2023 Strategy Review: The future of shipping will be shaped by this review. Now is the time for decisive action, maximize your efficiency and minimise your footprint through energy-efficient technologies and vessel retrofits. Let's work together to be at the forefront of this changes and create a sustainable shipping industry. #MaritimeDecarbonization #Sustainability #ShippingRegulations #NorthWindships

Charting a Quieter Course: Solutions for Underwater Noise Pollution Earlier this year, we explored the growing problem of underwater noise pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems. We highlighted the growing problem of underwater noise pollution and its devastating impact on marine ecosystems and the statistics were alarming: shipping noise has increased 32-fold since the 1950s, creating a constant underwater roar. As promised, we're diving deeper into this critical issue by shifting our focus from the problem, to the solution. 🌬️ Harnessing the Wind: We believe the first, and most crucial step is to be quieter by design... and what better way to do so than to remove the loudest part of the vessel? North Windships wind-powered propulsion systems provide vessels with a transformative solution, as they provide a naturally quieter alternative to traditional engine-driven ships, drastically reducing underwater noise pollution. 🤝 Collaboration and Advocacy: While technological innovation is key, we also recognise the importance of collaboration. We support the International Windship Association's development and implementation of stricter regulations regarding underwater noise and closely follow the establishment of protected biodiversity areas where noise pollution is carefully managed. We believe that a quieter, healthier ocean is within reach, and at North Windships, we are proud that our products can be part of this positive change, creating a future where marine life thrives in a healthier, quieter ocean. #UnderwaterNoise #MarineConservation #SustainableShipping #NorthWindships #OceanHealth
