We would like to offer our congratulations to Eleanor Fitzgerald on her significant achievement in winning two medals at the 15th European Nations Dragon Boat Championship with Team Great Britain (GB). Outside of the boat and back on dry land, Eleanor is our Head of Regulatory Risk Management within our global regulatory affairs office based in London. “My team is the GB Senior Women’s Team, and we recently won silver in the 1000-meter race and bronze in the 200-meter Dragon Boating race. It is the first time that there was a standard size (22 crew) women’s boat at senior level and therefore, I am proud to say, these are the first medals GB women have ever won at this level. For me it’s all about fitness, team membership and personal resilience. I first got involved in dragon boating in 2019 when I was posted in Singapore with Northern Trust, so Dragon Boating is a nice way to retain a connection with Asia and its culture.” Dragon Boating explained 🐉🚣♀️ Dragon Boating is an ancient sport which first began in China about 2000 years ago. Fun Fact - Dragon Bating takes place across the globe and there are teams in most countries that we have an office in. Olympic bound? 🥇 It will be a demonstration sport in the 2028 Olympics and hopefully a full Olympic sport in 2032. There was a dragon boat in the flotilla travelling with the Olympic flame as it moved along the Seine towards the Eiffel Tower as part of the Open Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. #MadeForGreater #LifeAtNT

July 2024 marks the 20-year anniversary of our Abilities Business Resource Council, as well as the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. To celebrate the occasion, members of the employee led Business Resource Council passed out cookies made by Moose & Me Baking Company, a local bakery that employs people with disabilities. For 20 years, the Abilities Business Resource Council has been focused on contributing to Northern Trust’s efforts to advance disability inclusion in the workplace. Their mission is to address the needs and concerns of people with disabilities and caregivers employed by Northern Trust by raising awareness and advocacy for our partners, clients, and communities. 1,634 miles / 2,629 kilometers / 8,627,520 feet 🚴♂️🚴♀️ Last week Northern Trust employees Jeremy Svejdar, David Roberts, Karla Cassar and Eugene Foo led a brave team of volunteers on a 24-hour cycling challenge in our London office. Following a very challenging but fun filled 24 hours, we are delighted to report the team exceeded their target of 1477 miles and covered a total of 1634 miles! The purpose behind the event was to draw attention and awareness to three great charities: • Farleigh Hospice • Cancer Research UK (CRUK) • Save the Children UK Over the course of the 24-hour period, we saw over 80 employees give up their time and join the team in the saddle.
