Andreessen Horowitz recently published an updated report of the Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps (by active users and unique monthly visits). One find in particular stands out: Character.AI @ #2 for unique visits. Character.AI is a platform that allows users to engage in conversations with AI-generated characters: fictional figures, historical personas, or even celebrities, etc. The focus on character-driven, creative experiences makes it somewhat distinct from a lot of other platforms. In July, it had 226.54 million visits and an average session duration of almost 14 minutes. It's probably the biggest tool we have not experimented with here at North Light AI....but that will change! Here's the full report: https://lnkd.in/exUqJXRn

"Red Teams" During a recent guest appearance at a Stanford University business class, former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, shared some candid thoughts about what's coming in the world of AI over the next few years: the good, the bad, the ugly. In particular, he discussed the threat of misinformation and the management of increasingly autonomous and powerful AI systems...while also acknowledging that characterizing these systems is currently beyond our reach. "How can you detect danger in a system which has learned it--but you don't know what to ask it? It’s learned something bad, but it can’t tell you what it learned and you don’t know what to ask it.“ To mitigate risks, he recommended employing AI-driven red teams. But what are "red teams?" Essentially, a red team is a group of experts who try to break into and manipulate a company's security system. Their job is to find weaknesses by pretending to be real attackers, using techniques like hacking and tricking people to test how well the company's defenses work. By doing this, they help the company find and fix security problems, making it safer from real threats.
