Socialize With Purpose®

About us

2020 Milwaukee Business Journal Diversity in Business Trailblazer Award Nō Studios derives from nō 能, the Sino-Japaense root word for "skill" or "talent;" While in English, "No" is a familiar response to artists as they repeatedly confront and conquer it in pursuit of their craft. The desire behind our 40,000 square foot headquarters, is to create a collaborative workspace and social community that offers an environment for artists and art lovers to come together. Our historic building in the heart of the Pabst Brewery Complex, features offices, co-working space, a state-of-the-art screening room, performance stage, café bar, gallery, and rooftop lounge. We sit at the intersection of two models under one mission: to house tenants active in the Milwaukee arts scene, and to create and foster a vibrant membership community, brought together by socializing with a purpose. Our tenant list reflects the full spectrum of Milwaukee-based arts organizations from academia, non-profit, production, advocacy, and investment. With residency at Nō Studios, tenants receive event hosting privileges to support our membership community. The pillars of the membership program are accessibility and community. With this in mind, Nō Studios offers multiple participation options and ways to connect. Each membership level grants admittance to any Nō Studios programmed events. Our programming calendar spans music, visual arts, film, spoken word, writing, and dance. The intention is to explore the intersection between these media, elevate underrepresented artists, educate, inspire, and entertain. The calendar will be guided by the community and amplified by our Oscar winning founder, John Ridley. https://linktr.ee/nostudiosmke

A holiday mash-up for the whole family, The Hip Hop Nutcracker returns for another spectacular tour. Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award-nominated Jennifer Weber, this contemporary dance spectacle is a re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, smashing hip hop dance and Tchaikovsky’s timeless music together into a heart-stirring and inspirational holiday event. The Hip Hop Nutcracker is brought to life by a powerhouse cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop’s founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set. Just like the original, in The Hip Hop Nutcracker, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City. Grab your family and friends and let the dynamic performers of The Hip Hop Nutcracker take you on a journey that celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season. —  “Showcasing an incredibly athletic, youthful cast and brimming with positive energy, The Hip Hop Nutcracker, adapted by Mike Fitelson, proved to be a nonstop, family-friendly party.” – Milwaukee Magazine 🎟️ Find tickets through the link in bio 🗓️: November 22nd, 7:30pm 📍: Marcus Performing Arts Center

In Nova Linea’s first appearance at the Marcus Performing Arts Center “some wounds never heal,” choreographed by Artistic Director Jared Baker, offers an intimate, raw, and painful exploration of grief. This evocative piece delves deeply into the emotional landscape of loss, portraying a poignant story of feeling stuck, frozen, and unable to let go or move forward. Exploring the depth of human emotion, the piece examines how grief shapes and changes us, posing profound questions: How do we pick ourselves back up and continue moving forward? How do these life-altering events leave their mark on us, both physically and emotionally? “some wounds never heal” not only reflects on personal pain but also emphasizes the importance of community, compassion, and empathy in the healing process. It highlights how shared experiences of loss can forge deeper connections between individuals, fostering a collective resilience. This moving performance invites the audience to engage with their own experiences of grief and find solace in the understanding and support of others. 🎟️ Find tickets through the link in bio. 🗓️: November 15th, 7:30pm 📍: Marcus Performing Arts Center

Doc Talk’s John Ridley and Matt Carey and the ticket of ElectionLine’s Dominic Patten and Ted Johnson debate the greatest political documentary of all time on an unprecedented crossover episode. They also plumb a mystery: why conservatives have such a hard time making a documentary that’s any good. Johnson, who is based in Washington, D.C., shares what Steve Bannon had to tell him on that subject. And Patten, Deadline’s Executive Editor, Legal, Labor & Politics, identifies a possible exception to the rule – a film about a certain GOP presidential candidate who revealed a hidden side of himself in a 2014 documentary. On the latest episode of Doc Talk John and Matt Discuss Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid; along with the award-winning filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer, and protagonist James Carville. The veteran Democratic strategist’s definitive role convincing the party establishment that Biden needed to step aside for the 2024 Presidential Election is explored in the new documentary. Carville, the “Ragin’ Cajun” who oversaw Bill Clinton’s successful White House bid in 1992, explains why he concluded Biden would lose to Donald Trump in 2024 and the intense blowback he faced after he publicly called for the incumbent president to move aside. He also discusses why he thinks “wokeness” is a losing political brand, and what it’s like to be told to “Shut the f*ck up” by a U.S. senator, as well as a “political hack” by one of his own party. The conversation comes as Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid opens in theaters in New York and is set to expand to Los Angeles and other cities in the coming weeks.
