🍰 How does CSRD relate to cake? Stay with us ⤵️ Novata's Head of Metrics and Regulation, Caitlin Pentifallo PhD, spoke on a panel at a Climate Week NYC event on the topic of double materiality. Faced with a question about interoperability and how voluntary reporting can be applied to something as complex as CSRD, Caitlin put it this way: "CSRD is asking you to bake a 7-layer cake. Not just the cake, but ESRS datapoints want the recipe, the source of the ingredients, the temperature you baked it, and the plan in place for how you didn’t burn down your kitchen. Voluntary, industry-based reporting standards we have today are mini cupcakes. They are a sample of what CSRD is asking. So if you have done CSRD, of course you can pull off a mini cupcake. But if you’ve only made mini cupcakes before, you might know the flavors but you can’t necessarily pull off the 7-layer without a lot of preparation."
