We're proud to have played a part in transforming the historic Phillips Packing Company factory into a vibrant community asset. Our New Markets and Historic Tax Credit financing helped turn this former tomato canning facility into a dynamic mixed-use space supporting local businesses and job creation. “I just love that this building, which has such a rich history, can be repurposed to support the community in so many different ways.” In the early 20th century Phillips Packing Company was the world’s largest producer of canned tomatoes, employing a quarter of the city of Cambridge's residents on Maryland’s rural Eastern Shore. The Packing House factory fell into disrepair after the company was sold in the 1960s, taking many precious jobs with it. Today the site is reimagined as an economic driver, providing a dynamic mixed-use space to foster community, businesses, and job creation, thanks in large part to funding support from New Markets Tax Credit and Historic Tax Credits.
