Ransomware isn’t just theft. It’s a calculated game of pressure and risk. The recent cyberattack on services and casino's owned by Michigan’s Sault Ste. Marie Tribe is a stark reminder that ransomware groups don’t just steal data. They manipulate negotiations, forcing organizations into high-stakes decisions with no easy answers. Our VP of Strategy, Jack Danahy, spoke with Frank Witsil at the Detroit Free Press about the increasing number of attacks on county governments, healthcare systems, and schools: “There has been a massive upswing over the last couple of years in attacks against county governments, against health care systems and school systems.” So what can organizations do? 🔹 Prepare for pressure. Ransomware is about more than encryption, it’s psychological warfare. Have a response plan before an attack happens. 🔹 Know your risks. Threat actors exploit weak points in security and decision-making. Identify vulnerabilities early. 🔹 Resist panic-driven choices. Paying a ransom is no guarantee. Hackers have sold stolen data even after payment. These incidents aren’t just technical breaches, they’re strategic plays by threat actors. Staying ahead means thinking like defenders, not just responders. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eXfZ_Q2R

Cybersecurity breaches are more than technical issues—they disrupt operations, erode trust, and require quick, strategic responses. The emotional journey of dealing with a breach often mirrors the five stages of grief: 1️⃣ Denial: "This can’t be happening" 2️⃣ Anger: "Who’s responsible for this?" 3️⃣ Bargaining: "Maybe it’s not that bad" 4️⃣ Depression: "This is a disaster" 5️⃣ Acceptance: "Here’s what we do next" Understanding these stages can help organizations respond more effectively and emerge stronger. Discover how in Jack Danahy's latest blog. 📖 Read now: https://hubs.la/Q035znQ50

Big changes could be coming for state and local cybersecurity. With Kristi Noem now leading the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s role and funding are under scrutiny. That could mean reductions to cyber grants and shifts in how state and local governments defend their systems. What does this mean for cybersecurity leaders? ▪️Will cyber grants continue, or will states need to find new funding sources? ▪️How should governments adjust their security strategies? ▪️What happens to threat intelligence sharing if CISA’s role changes? StateScoop spoke with cybersecurity leaders, including Dr. Jorge L. (NuHarbor Security), Erik Avakian (Info-Tech Research Group), and Pamela Smith (Verified Voting Foundation), to explore what’s at stake. https://hubs.la/Q035nksm0 Should state and local governments be more self-sufficient when it comes to cybersecurity funding? Let’s discuss.

"How’s our cybersecurity?" It’s a simple question—but for many security leaders, it’s one of the hardest to answer. In a recent conversation, Jack Danahy and Kyle Smith broke down how to tackle this question head-on. Their advice? Keep it simple and grounded in real data. Here’s how to frame your response in a way stakeholders can understand: 🔹 We’re improving—because we’re reducing response times or strengthening defenses. 🔹 We’re holding steady—because we’re maintaining compliance and security controls. 🔹 We have challenges—because response times are slipping or risks are increasing. 🎥 Watch this short clip to hear Jack and Kyle’s insights.
