Last week our Rocky Mountain Chapter hosted its inaugural legislative reception, providing a valuable opportunity to introduce legislators to NWRA, highlight chapter priorities, and emphasize the importance of the battery stewardship bill. During the reception, the chapter proudly presented Sen. Cleave Simpson with his 2024 Legislative Champion Award for his continued support of waste and recycling initiatives. The following morning, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee held a crucial hearing on SB25-163, which aims to enhance recycling infrastructure and fire safety measures for waste facilities. Thanks to powerful testimony from Barrett Jensen from Waste Connections, Elizabeth OConnell Chapman from Recycle Colorado, and Scott Richardson, MA, CFO from South Metro Fire Rescue, the bill passed with a 7-2 vote and is now advancing to the Appropriations Committee. NWRA remains committed to engaging stakeholders and driving legislative progress as the bill moves forward. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this successful event and advocacy effort! #NWRA #RockyMountainChapter #Advocacy #BatteryStewardship #Sustainability #Recycling #WasteManagement #LegislativeSuccess
