Long before #MeToo echoed globally, Tarana Burke created safe spaces for young Black and Brown women to say these two powerful words: “Me Too.” Through her courage, compassion, and relentless advocacy, she gave voice to survivors whose stories had long been silenced. Tarana taught the world that empowerment begins with listening, believing, and standing alongside one another—especially when it feels hardest. Her vision reminds every young woman of color that her story matters, her healing matters, and her voice can ignite a movement. NYC Her Future proudly amplifies the legacies of women like Tarana Burke and we’re committed to creating environments where young women feel seen, supported, and believed—so they, too, can rise up and shape a more just world. 🌍 Who has helped you find the strength in your voice? To kickoff Women’s Herstory Month, Founding Executive Director, Nathifa Forde took the stage as the opening speaker and MC at NYC Department of Education Women’s History Month event, sharing her own full-circle story—from once being a student under the mentorship of Dr. Jawana Johnson, Ed.D, to now leading NYC Her Future’s mission to uplift and empower young women and girls of color throughout New York City. After energetic performances from the incredible all-female drummers of BATALA, Nathifa engaged in inspiring youth-led interviews with talented students from Art and Design School, reflecting openly on cultural connections and historical impact. At NYC Her Future, we believe that celebrating Women’s History Month is more than reflecting on past achievements— it’s about investing in young women and celebrating the educators who guide their journeys. Thank you to Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos and the NYC Department of Education’s team for the invitation. To the students and educators who attended: Thank you for your courage, curiosity, and vision. Your journey is just beginning, and we’re here cheering you on every step of the way! ✨ #NYCHerFuture #WomensHistoryMonth2025 #MovingForwardTogether

When we center women and communities of color in the fight for climate justice, we create solutions that truly serve everyone. Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, a renowned marine biologist, policy expert, and Brooklyn native, knows this well. Her groundbreaking work bridges science, policy, and storytelling—ensuring that climate solutions are not only sustainable but inclusive. She shows young women everywhere that the ocean isn’t just a place of exploration; it’s a powerful site for community action and environmental justice. At NYC Her Future, we are deeply inspired by leaders like Dr. Johnson who understand that the wellbeing of our planet and the empowerment of young women of color are intertwined. When young women see themselves in leaders like Dr. Johnson, they realize they, too, have the power to protect, transform, and heal our world. 🌍✨ Who inspires your passion for the planet? Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the power, resilience, and brilliance of women and girls worldwide. Imagine a young woman, full of potential but limited by systemic barriers—what if the right support system helped her break through? That’s the future we’re building. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, reminds us that we can’t afford to wait. When we invest in women, we invest in stronger communities, thriving economies, and a more just society. Let’s push forward together—mentoring, advocating, and reshaping the narrative so that every young woman and girl can step into her power. Tag a woman who inspires you and share one way you’ll help accelerate change! ✨ #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 Fatima Dosso Nathifa Forde Sideya Sherman NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice Mahaliel Bethea II, Ed.D Patrice Brown Natalia Diaz NYC Department of Education

What if the way we speak about young women of color could transform their futures? Dr. Brittney Cooper, a professor, writer, and co-founder of the Crunk Feminist Collective, has spent her career proving that words have power. Through her work, she challenges the world to see Black women and girls as brilliant, bold, and boundless in possibility. Her book, Eloquent Rage, is more than a memoir—it’s a call to embrace the fire that fuels change, to speak truth, and to claim space unapologetically. At NYC Her Future, we know that language shapes reality. The way we tell our stories, advocate for ourselves, and uplift each other determines the future we build. Dr. Cooper’s work reminds us that when young women are given the tools to express themselves, they don’t just change their lives—they change the world. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate her as a living trailblazer who is inspiring the next generation to write their own futures. Tag a young woman whose voice deserves to be heard! 🧡✊🏾 #MovingForwardTogether #NYCHerFuture #WomensVoicesMatter
