First time working with a recruiter? Here are some tips! 1) It's your resume, not theirs. Say you require explicit details of where they are sending your resume - names of companies and for what position. Otherwise they may play the numbers game and just shoot your resume to every possible target (which is sloppy and doesn't work). 2) Identify all of your requirements, even if you think some of them are obvious. This includes compensation (total, base plus bonus), medical (check to see what your current contributions to the monthly insurance premium are), PTO, maternity / paternity leave, personal, sick, holidays, car allowance, perks, remote / hybrid, etc... Make sure the recruiters are representing you at a comp number that actually works for you! 3) Ask the recruiter if they have looked into ALL of the potential fits for your experience? Sometimes recruiters try to play chess with their candidates, leaning in certain candidates to certain job orders in order to fill more roles, instead of allowing you access to all relevant openings. 4) Make sure your recruiter is really getting to know YOU, your reasons for looking, your career goals, your interests, how you want to grow, and what kind of people and work motivates you. 5) Honesty fosters Honesty, and even advocacy. An honest appraisal of your strengths and areas for growth will not only help you narrow in on the perfect role, but will also help create a space in which your recruiter will be honest with you about what they know as well, and may even give them more confidence as they present you to clients. 6) Check in! Engagement throughout the process (and accessibility) are crucial. Recruiters shuffle through lots of candidates, stay in touch and at the top of their mind. They may need that diplomatic nudge from time to time. #recruitertips #jobseekers #headhunters #recruiters

- Family Offices / Funds / PE / Owners / Investors - If you have capital to deploy and need to navigate the nuances of this complex and challenging development market, there has never been a better time to onboard skilled development managers, underwriters, acquisitions managers, and design / construction professionals. The market is RICH with talent. There are fewer deals on which the math makes sense....but there is always still opportunity, particularly if you have capital and some patience. This is New York after all. It may be a year or two before the RE DEV market starts making a comeback - after office corrects, and after interest rates go up, and after the RE lobby convinces constituents and their representatives to create an environment that allows for more housing, and after some developers (forgive me for saying this) begin to consider that 10-15% profit is better than 0%. For those who want to get ahead of the curve, now is the time to attract talent who will help you identify opportunities. I've talked to more top notch and available development talent in the last 3 months than I had done in previous 4 years. Consider that your next investment opportunity starts with your next development hire.
