Our partners at Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) recently hosted the Tools & Tiaras Inc. summer camp at their Industry City facility. This pioneering program empowers young women to explore career pathways in the trades through hands-on workshops, covering everything from wind energy to electrical work, carpentry, auto mechanics, and more. Community partners like NEW are not only driving the clean energy transition but also ensuring that economic opportunities are accessible to all New Yorkers. We're proud to support initiatives that build a more sustainable and equitable future. #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #NewYorkClimateExchange #CommunityImpact

The Exchange aims to confront urgent climate impacts and develop innovative, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
About us
The New York Climate Exchange (“The Exchange”) is a first-of-its-kind collaborative model for accelerating climate change solutions for New York City and beyond. Powered by its strong partnerships and future home on Governors Island, The Exchange will use education, research, an innovation hub, job training, and public programs to prepare communities to respond to climate challenges. The Exchange is based on a simple idea: collaboration works. The Exchange’s partner network includes climate experts, researchers, educators, business leaders, and community organizers who are working together to tackle the effects of climate change. Expected to open in 2028, The Exchange’s home on Governors Island will be a beacon for sustainable and resilient urban environments around the world, using renewable energy and zero-waste technologies to generate more energy than it consumes. The Exchange also aspires to be New York City’s first large-scale mass timber development and first Living Building Challenges certification. Together, The Exchange’s partner network, physical campus, and extensive offerings will explore and develop climate solutions focused on justice and inclusion; the relationship between energy, water, and food systems; and sustainable urban environments. Opportunities to explore and get involved with The Exchange will be available before construction starts.

Extreme heat is a growing concern in New York City, especially in communities with limited green spaces. WE ACT for Environmental Justice's recent study, highlighted by CBS 2, developed a Heat Vulnerability Index to pinpoint which areas are most affected by high temperatures. The findings reveal that neighborhoods in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Uptown Manhattan are disproportionately impacted, with a clear correlation between heat vulnerability, race, and income. WE ACT’s advocacy is making waves, leading the City Council to consider a proposal ensuring all apartments have air conditioning. Today I’m reading an excellent piece about the many ways to interpret climate forecasting models. Thanks Sarah Kapnick for sharing. Whether we purchase a #home or build a sports stadium-increasingly consumers, investor’s and credit rating agencies like Moody’s need to know what #climaterisks “the asset” is facing. Everyone on the planet is exposed to climate risk, and modeling is an indispensable tool for understanding the biggest consequences of rising temperatures in the decades ahead. This Bloomberg News feature by Eric Roston Krishna Karra Leslie Kaufman Sinduja Rangarajan helps us understand this question. #climaterisk #housing https://lnkd.in/e-s6brgj

Helping to grow New York City's green economy is an important part of our mission, and we're excited to work with you to build pathways for well-paid climate jobs that help us achieve a low carbon, climate resilient NYC!
Last week the NYC Mayor's Office of Talent and Workforce Development met with Stephen Hammer and senior leaders from the The New York Climate Exchange for a robust conversation on green economy, decarbonization, and how public-private partnerships will help lead our green transition. Afterwards, we were given a tour of the island, which will become a hub of green innovation, education and R&D over the next decade. Thank you to Shaina Horowitz, Andel Koester and Lauren Barredo for joining us. The New York Climate Exchange on Governor's Island is a key partner in helping achieve the vision laid out in the Green Economy Action Plan co-authored by NYC Talent and New York City Economic Development Corporation, which is a $750M plan to decarbonize and prepare NYC for the future green economy that is expected to create 400,000 jobs, including 12,000 apprenticeships by 2040! Recent research published in Science Magazine, co-authored by Aspen Global Change Institute Climate Science Fellow Emilio Mateo, reveals that tropical glaciers in the Andes have reached their smallest extent since the dawn of human civilization. This groundbreaking study underscores the urgent and perilous state of these glaciers in our rapidly warming world. At The #NewYorkClimateExchange, we are proud to partner with leading institutions like AGCI. Their critical research, such as this study, deepens our understanding of the climate crisis and informs actionable solutions. Tackling the climate crisis starts with robust data collection. Our partners at Brookhaven National Laboratory are leading the charge in Tucson, Arizona, gathering critical data on extreme heat. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven's scientists are addressing the issue of "data deserts"—regions where essential climate data is sparse. By filling these gaps, they're providing the insights needed to understand better and adapt to the escalating impacts of the climate crisis. We're proud to collaborate with Brookhaven National Lab, a key partner in our mission to develop sustainable solutions.
